Implementing the Emancipation Proclamation across the United States took over two years. On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, to notify the 250,000 enslaved people in the state that they were free. Inclusion of people and ideas is a critical value at Valkyrie Enterprises. We reflect on the past and look forward to the future on this federal holiday.
