Columbian Park is a beloved community space in Lafayette, IN. While the park was a standout in terms of amenities, a massive pond on the north end was bringing down the overall experience. With 130 years of decomposed organic matter causing strong odors and unappealing views, this century-old pond needed help getting back to its original glory. Our team saw a unique opportunity to clean the water and enhance biodiversity by combining natural elements and simple technology. Rather than using chemicals that only address water quality symptoms and not the root issues, we devised an ecological treatment system (ETS) that would allow the pond to revitalize itself. By working with the native environment, this innovative system is low maintenance, budget friendly, and beautiful. "I’ve been with V3 for 30 years now! A lot of people ask me why, but most of those people don’t work for V3. I think a lot of my coworkers get it. If you’re doing something you enjoy, for a company you like, with people you like, why leave? The one biggest reason I’ve stayed is I’m constantly challenged by the work I do. Every project brings unique challenges. Two rewarding parts of being a civil engineer are solving problems and helping people. At V3 I work to do just that!" Thank you, Dwayne Gillian, for 30 years of engineering excellence!

Last Friday marked the end of my internship with V3 Companies. I am excited to share that I have continued to expand my knowledge of design in Land Development quite vastly. This summer I was given the opportunity to complete preliminary engineering design on a small site of about 1.67 acres. To begin this process, I worked on the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Stormwater Detention Summary documents. To design the stormwater basin and pipes, I was able to learn how to utilize WINTR-20 and Hydraflow. At the end of the summer, I presented my project to the Land Development team. Thank you to all the engineers at V3 for helping me continuously throughout this process. I worked on many other things this summer including impervious-pervious exhibits, presenting quality control standards, and other permitting such as SHPO and EcoCAT. I also got the chance to go to numerous active construction sites and learn specifically about the role of an engineer on site. I am extremely grateful for being able to continue learning at V3 Companies. Thank you V3 Companies, again, for an awesome summer!

Built in 1899, Indianapolis’s Emrichsville Dam low-head dam design was causing significant danger to people utilizing river recreation. When it collapsed, modern solutions for public safety and water supply were in desperate need. Learn how Indianapolis Technical Director of Ecological Engineering Ted Blahnik and V3’s water engineers helped create the White River Rock Ramp to address safety concerns and restore a more natural waterway. https://lnkd.in/gVDV2bhh

This past week I completed my first internship at V3 Companies and this experience exceeded my expectations. I will always look back fondly on it. Over the past three months, I learned a great deal, including: - Working through complex design problems using #AutoCAD. - Creating/delivering Contract Books and bid documents to clients. - Gaining hands-on experience in construction by working as a laborer. Over the course of this summer, I met so many great people who were all so helpful and kind. Not one person ever turned me away when I asked for assistance, no matter how many times that may have been. I especially want to shoutout Jamie Bradbury for mentoring me and providing the resources I needed to succeed. My experience was truly rewarding, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a team that values collaboration and innovation. As I move forward in my career, I will cherish the skills I've gained and the relationships I've built during my time at V3 Companies.
