🐂 Our Family Advocates had a blast at the Days of ’47 Rodeo! 🐂 A huge thank you to Dan Shaw, President of the Days of ’47 Rodeo board, for the generous donation! We'd also like to thank the Utah Cowgirl Collective for their continued support! And last but not least, huge shout out the bull riders! They were given the chance to win donations for Utah Community Action by riding a bucking bronco for 8 seconds, and they crushed it out there! 🤠 • • • #DaysOf47Rodeo #UtahCommunityAction #Community #Utah #Nonprofit #Rodeo
About us
Utah Community Action’s mission is to empower individuals, strengthen families, and build communities through self-reliance and education programs. Utah Community Action sets itself apart by offering a continuum of care that starts with solving immediate challenges and continues with programs that provide ongoing support and empowerment. Through holistic case management, we address the many factors that contribute to single generational, two-generational, and intergenerational poverty. Our six core programs are Adult Education, Head Start and Early Head Start, Case Management and Housing, HEAT assistance, Weatherization, and Nutrition. Founded in 1965, our organization has expanded our service area and services over the years to best serve our clients. In 2018, we served over 50,000 individuals living in poverty in Utah.

Utah Community Action is proud to partner with the Utah Homeless Services Board to not ensure that we are doing all we can to PREVENT homelessness, despite skyrocketing housing costs with limited affordable housing options. We provide crucial diversion services to assist individuals in crisis to identify non-shelter solutions; we ensure effective and efficient bed utilization at shelters to serve as many as possible; and perhaps most importantly we stabilize those who are already housed by providing temporary rental assistance, utility assistance, and landlord-tenant mediation to prevent harmful evictions and keep landlords whole. This is a complex problem and we are grateful for our private, public and nonprofit partners who are actively working together to address it. We thank leaders like board chairs Mayor Erin Mendenhall, Wayne Niederhauser, Randy Shumway and Spencer Eccles for their time and dedication in addressing these challenges together with funders and service providers.
I'm honored to chair the new Utah Homeless Services Board and serve alongside leaders such as Wayne Niederhauser, Spencer P. E., and Mayor Erin Mendenhall. Our goal must be to create systems of support that propel individuals along the continuum of care, starting from street living to the ultimate goal of fostering human dignity. To do so, we have to understand that the core difficulty for those who are chronically homeless is trauma! Much like the rest of the nation, the challenges of homelessness in Utah extend beyond mere economic factors. While employment and affordable housing are crucial, they alone are not enough to solve the issue. This is, in part, because we must recognize and address the different types of homelessness affecting our communities — differentiation is vital for creating solutions that uplift those in need and provide them with the tools to achieve human dignity.
