Senior Vice President at United States Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Assoc & Foundation, Inc

This July 5th was a special day. Not only was USMMA recognized at the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange as the first federal service academy to admit women 50 years ago but the incoming plebe class of 2028 began their Kings Point journey. They answered the call for our nation’s great need for licensed Merchant Marine officers to serve the defense and economic needs of the United States. I am proud to have been on the podium with women graduates and Midshipmen from every decade as Frances Yates ’78, one of the first women admitted to USMMA, rang the bell! Special thanks to former USMMA Alumni Association & Foundation Chairman Jim Hamilton ’77 for arranging with the NYSE. It is an honor to celebrate the accomplishments of the women that came before me at Kings Point, and those that will come after me. We at the USMMA Alumni Association remain committed to advocating for the Academy and the Midshipmen because our nation needs the dedicated young people that answered the call in the early 1940’s, the women trailblazers that answered in 1974, and every young person that entered Vickery Gate in 2024 and in the years to come! #ACTANONVERBA
