Turning the spotlight to our wonderful product specialist May Nguyen! May joined the team earlier this year and is based out of our San Francisco office. “It was love at first sight when I discovered Speak,” she said. “I grew up learning English by attending English institutions, learning with tutors, studying abroad, you name it, so I understand the language learning struggle first-hand. I wish Speak existed when I was learning English – it’s a special product!” May started learning Spanish after joining the team, and shared it really helped her communicate during her recent trip to Spain. “Japanese is next on my list,” she said. May was tasked with owning and up-leveling Speak’s QA function when she joined in February. “Looking back at where we started when I joined compared to today is very rewarding,” she said. When asked what she enjoys most about working for Speak, she shared it’s the impact she’s able to have on the company. “Speak is at a challenging yet rewarding stage where every individual can make a great impact on the company,” May said. “The close-knit and ego-free team makes this possible! Today’s spotlight is on our incredible Product Analytics Lead Kathleen He! Crossing her one-year anniversary with Speak in May, she’s been instrumental in building an incredible product analytics foundation from the ground up. She joined Speak to work on a product and mission she personally resonated with. “I’ve always been interested in language learning, both as an avid language learner myself and having previously taught English in Taiwan,” she said. “I’ve seen how learning new languages can connect people and cultures together. I’m super excited to be part of a mission that does exactly that.” In her last year at Speak, she stood up the product analytics function and shaped the data culture. “It’s been fun figuring out how to scale our analytics team so we can experiment and surface actionable insights faster, improve data quality & pipelines, and empower everyone at the company to be more data driven.” Kathleen enjoys her co-workers at Speak the most! “Speak truly has the smartest yet most humble and low ego people I’ve ever worked with,” she said. “Some of my favorite memories have been getting together with our global teams in Seoul and Ljubljana.” If you want to work with Kathleen, you’re in luck!
