✈️✈️Come along with NAAF staff as we visit United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota. Bismarck, North Dakota is where the Keepseagle v. Vilsack class-action lawsuit originated, connecting back to NAAF‘s work focused on Native American farmers and ranchers. United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) empowers students through its Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (SAFS) Associates Degree program, which aims to support the next generation of Native agriculture producers. This program provides students with essential resources—stipends, tools, equipment, and more—plus hands-on learning opportunities through farm visits and educational events. The newly developed 5,000-square-foot, four-season greenhouse on campus is an exciting addition to the program, supporting food sovereignty and sustainable agriculture. This net-zero greenhouse is the first of its kind to be operated by a Tribal college. Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is an important part of the United States’ climate strategy, and the U.S. federal government has invested billions of dollars to support CDR development. State action on CDR is also important and can pave the way for projects that are tailored to economic, geographic and political contexts. In our new WRI Climate article, we find that state CDR policies fall into three categories: ▪️Those going beyond net zero to integrate carbon removal into comprehensive climate policies ▪️Those focused on deploying carbon management infrastructure ▪️Those still early in the process of developing CDR policy Read on to learn about opportunities for states to further advance and improve their strategies: https://bit.ly/4eeiVAa #CarbonRemoval #CDR #NetZero

“When conservation organizations and Indigenous communities work together towards the same goal, they're a powerful force.” We need to "find common ground and balance that transcend cultural barriers, that transcend cultural barriers. [...] What really brings us together is our mutual and shared dependence on the natural world." — ?ikaatius / Tyson Atleo, Ahousaht First Nation Hereditary Chief and Nature United’s Natural Climate Solutions Director. 🌳 Exciting Progress in Reforestation! 🌳 American Forests recently hosted a webinar in collaboration with our partner Aspiration, highlighting the remarkable strides being made in reforestation efforts under the historic REPLANT Act. Support from partners like Aspiration plays a crucial role in amplifying the impact of this transformative initiative by helping us to scale supply chain solutions to create more resilient forests for the future. The webinar, open to Aspiration account holders whose “Pay What is Fair” contributions directly support these efforts, explored the groundbreaking impacts already achieved through these vital partnerships. Most notably, that 15% of the reforestation backlog has been addressed in just three years since the act was passed! Our Chief Program Officer of the Resilient Forests Program, Brian Kittler, shared these exciting updates and engaged with attendees through a Q&A session. Together, we're making a difference for our planet! 🌍💚 Chad Hunter | Tim Newell

I am always so fascinated by all of the innovative science that goes into our reforestation efforts! Did you know that trees migrate? They do so slowly though — generation by generation — to keep up with shifting climate conditions. But as climate change continues to rapidly progress, trees may not be able to naturally migrate quickly enough to keep up with the rapid changes we are seeing. In American Forests' most recent mini-feature, learn about assisted seed migration  — a climate-informed restoration strategy through which researchers and forest managers help trees "move" to climate-adapted locations: https://lnkd.in/egfqJEGH. While there are complex approaches to this strategy, here is a cool graphic to help you wrap your brain around the basics of assisted seed migration! By planting species in areas where they’re better suited for future conditions, we may be able to create more resilient forests ready to face tomorrow's challenges. Learn more about when, how and where assisted seed migration fits into climate-informed restoration in the newest edition of American Forests magazine: https://lnkd.in/egfqJEGH.
