About us
Chartered in 1939 as the Coast Guard Reserve, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary supports and participates in all missions of the Coast Guard with the exception of direct military and law enforcement actions. This volunteer group of 21,000 provides millions of dollars worth of support to the boaters and citizens of the United States in areas as varied as search & rescue, teaching boating safety classes, doing no-jeopardy vessel safety checks for recreational boaters, standing watch at Coast Guard stations, and augmenting Coast Guard crews.

Lieutenant Commander Jose L. Rodriguez enlisted in U.S. Coast Guard in 1980 and retired in 2005. When he was a Lieutenant, Jose Rodriguez made history as the first Hispanic to command a TACLET (Tactical Law Enforcement Team) when he led TACLET South from 1996 to 1998. He also became the first Coast Guardsman to command a U.S. Marine Corps unit, taking charge of the Riverine Training Center at Camp Lejeune in 1999. That same year, Rodriguez became the first Hispanic-American Coast Guardsman to earn Gold Navy/Marine Corps jump wings and was assigned to a Jump Billet. Later, he became one of the first commanding officers of the Coast Guard’s newly commissioned Maritime Safety and Security Teams (MSSTs), with MSSTs 91101 and 91102 led by two Hispanic officers. sadly, Lt. CMDR Rodriguez passed away of an illness in April 2010. 📸:U.S. Coast Guard 📰U.S. Coast Guard Historian’s Office #USCG #CoastGuard #USCGAux #GoCoastguard #semperparatus #MondayMotivation #MondayMood #MondayMorning #MondayBlues #MondayNight #PTWM #hispanicheritagemonth #nationalhispanicheritagemonth #celebratehispanicculture #hispanicheritage

The storm surge is destructive. Do not risk your life or try to ride out this storm. The telecommunications program is a vital component of the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s communication network, providing essential support to ensure safety and security on the water. This program trains Auxiliary members to operate radios and other communication equipment, linking boaters and maritime assets during emergencies, routine operations, and large-scale incidents. Continuing our celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we want to honor Seaman Apprentice William Ray "Billy" Flores who died heroically while saving many of his shipmates after the cutter Blackthorn collided with the tanker Capricorn on January 28, 1980, near Tampa Bay, Florida. Despite being less than a year out of boot camp, Flores remained aboard to assist and comfort trapped shipmates, ultimately sacrificing his life. He was posthumously awarded the Coast Guard Medal for his bravery. 📸 U.S. Coast Guard Historian's Office #USCG #CoastGuard #USCGAux #GoCoastguard #semperparatus #MondayMotivation #MondayMood #MondayMorning #MondayBlues #MondayNight #hispanicheritagemonth #nationalhispanicheritagemonth #celebratehispanicculture #hispanicheritage #PTWM

As National Hispanic Heritage Month continues, we spotlight Cesar Romero, the renowned actor best known for his role as the Joker in the 1960s "Batman" TV series, who served honorably in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Enlisting in 1943, Romero took a break from his flourishing Hollywood career to join the war effort, demonstrating his patriotism and dedication to his country. He served in the Pacific Theater, where he was involved in several significant military operations. Romero's service exemplifies the spirit of commitment and sacrifice, showcasing a different facet of the beloved entertainer's life. 📸 U.S. Coast Guard #USCG #CoastGuard #USCGAux #GoCoastguard #semperparatus #MondayMotivation #MondayMood #MondayMorning #MondayBlues #MondayNight #hispanicheritagemonth #nationalhispanicheritagemonth #celebratehispanicculture #hispanicheritage #PTWM
