Thanks to the generosity of Vodafone Foundation, URI is launching a coding bootcamp for teenage girls in our shelters. This new initiative expands our STEM offerings through our Fab Lab. As the sole provider in NYC for sheltered youth, this initiative introduces girls to new career paths, bridges the digital gap, and prepares them for advanced coding programs. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the William E. Seale Family Foundation and Trudy B. Valentine for their Major Gifts supporting our Economic Empowerment Program. These contributions are essential for continuing to provide our clients with job-readiness services. Together, we are empowering the future. #STEM #FabLab #EconomicEmpowerment #EmpowerHer #DigitalInclusion

After being involved in a dangerous relationship, Brenda had to leave her home and leave behind her beloved pets Rainbow and Kitty. ㅤ “I was sad, 'I mean,' sad, crying, thinking, 'How are my cats?'" Brenda said. ㅤ However, her situation changed when she was admitted to a URI shelter in Brooklyn that protects survivors of domestic violence and also accepts pets. ㅤ Thank you NY1 News Noticias and Yenniffer Martínez for sharing Brenda's story and the lifesaving work of Urban Resource Institute and the People and Animals Living Safely program. ㅤ ## ㅤ Tras verse involucrada en una relación peligrosa, Brenda tuvo que abandonar su hogar y dejar atrás a sus amadas mascotas rainbow y kitty. ㅤ “Yo estaba triste, 'I mean', triste', llorando, pensando ¿cómo están mis gatas?", dijo Brenda. ㅤ Sin embargo, su situación cambió al ser admitida en un albergue en Brooklyn que protege a sobrevivientes de violencia doméstica y, que además, acepta mascotas.

Celebrating 60 Years of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 On this day, sixty years ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law, prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. This landmark legislation was a critical step towards equality, but our work is far from finished. At Urban Resource Institute, we are committed to advancing the progress of communities of color and other historically disenfranchised populations. Through our mission, we address domestic violence, homelessness, poverty, and trauma, empowering our clients to build safe, stable, and sustainable futures. Join us in honoring this significant milestone and continuing the vital work for equality and justice for all. #CivilRights #Equality #CommunitySupport #URI #SocialImpact

Empowerment in Action with the Women's Caucus! 💪 URI extends heartfelt thanks to the Women's Caucus NYC Council for inviting us to City Hall for an empowering self-defense training session. Our dedicated team members, Olga Preciado and Emily Uz, joined Council Members Carmen De La Rosa, Julie Menin, and Inna Vernikov, Esq., along with Women's Caucus Executive Director Thamar Ferdinand, in this vital event.
