Urban College of Boston is proud to announce the addition of two distinguished individuals to its Board of Trustees. Constanza Cabello, Ed.D. and Jan Wyatt, Ph.D. bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the Board, reinforcing the college’s commitment to equal opportunity in higher education. Peter Ebb, Urban College of Boston Board Chair welcomes the new members, stating: “We feel extremely fortunate that Jan and Connie are joining the Urban College Board. Both have extensive experience in areas of critical importance to the College. Like many of Urban College’s students, both were born outside the United States (Jan in Trinidad, Connie in Chile) and have a deep understanding of the challenges our students face. Jan and Connie are passionate about making higher education accessible to communities like those served by Urban College and dedicated to a student-first focus in educational programs. They will strengthen the board, and they will benefit the College and the students we serve.” Join us in giving Connie and Jan a warm welcome! Faculty and staff at Urban College recently worked with Dr. Becky Wai-Ling Packard, Professor of Education and Psychology at Mount Holyoke College, on effective mentoring and persistence practices. Dr. Packard shared research and strategies focused on the experiences of first-generation, low-income students of color, and women. We are taking down the complex webs of higher education and helping students develop the tools to succeed at and beyond Urban College. Thank you, Dr. Packard.

President Salomon-Fernandez recently wrote about the significance of the honorary degrees our College is awarding this year. We celebrate two exceptional women.
Achieving gender parity starts with confronting ingrained gender norms and prejudices to enhance girls’ agency in shaping their destinies. This is why this year, Urban College of Boston awards an honorary degree to Dora De Leon. Jennifer De Leon #genderparity #womenleadership https://lnkd.in/eWmQbayz
