  • As we continue celebrating Disability Pride Month, we want to highlight that today, July 26, is National Disability Independence Day. This day marks the anniversary of the 1990 signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA provides crucial protection from employment discrimination and ensures better access to goods, services, and communications for people with disabilities. The ADA Benefits All People, Not Just “Americans with Disabilities” As accessibility continues to improve, the world evolves in other ways. While more brick-and-mortar businesses are becoming ADA compliant, an increasing number operate online. Websites must also prioritize accessibility. At UVMHN, we are working to make our websites more accessible. With each technological leap, designers must adopt multifunctional approaches to accommodate diverse abilities. Let’s celebrate the freedom the ADA inspires through forward-thinking design and technology. The Disability Pride Flag features five colors representing different types of disabilities: • Red: Physical disabilities • Gold: Neurodiversity • White: Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities • Blue: Psychiatric disabilities • Green: Sensory disabilities

  • Using the robotic arm enables our surgeons to provide a more predictable joint replacement surgical experience. Overall, the expectation is that robotic-assisted knee surgery will lead to less time in the hospital, less pain and faster recoveries, although recovery times can vary based on patient-specific factors. Both UVMMC and CVMC orthopedic teams use the Mako robot for joint replacement surgeries.
