When children are successful readers, they have a better chance at being successful leaders. We had the privilege of delivering 5,800 books to Wichita Public Schools - USD259 students who attend class in Shocker Neighborhood (elementary schools around the WSU main campus) in an effort to improve literacy skills. Thank you Champions for Literacy, Wichita State University Athletics, International Paper and all those who contributed to help these students. #ForceForGood

We fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in south central Kansas.
About us
At United Way, we’re focused on creating opportunities for all because we know that... • financial stability is more than just having an income. It’s also about having access to job training and financial counseling. • a good job starts with a good education. Entering school ready to learn and graduating on time leads to success in work and life. • a quality life isn’t possible without good health. A neighbor recently diagnosed with cancer, a victim of abuse or someone struggling with mental illness - they all need quality care. We keep tabs on the pulse of the community and look for problems that need solving, people who need help and the local programs that can do the best job. United Way of the Plains helps over 150,000 people in south central Kansas. Who are they? Could be the guy in the cubicle next to you, the boy who sacked your groceries at the store, the elderly woman who walks her dog by your house every day. They’re people like you and me, who live here and need a little help sometimes. But we do more than ask for your money. We ask for your input, conduct research, work with coalitions, write grants, recruit volunteers, distribute in-kind goods and make sure people find the services they need through 2-1-1. The social services safety net is at its strongest when partnerships are abundant. We took a moment today to thank our 2024-2025 Opportunity on the Plains funded partners for their work in ensuring resources are there when someone needs a helping hand. #ForceForGood #LiveUnited
Today was a day of thanks and fellowship. It was a privilege to take the time to show our appreciation for each of our funded partners. The 77 charitable programs that United Way of the Plains partners with make up the social safety net for South-Central Kansas. Our community depends on them to provide permanent housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness, safety for survivors of abuse, mentorship for our youth who could fall through the cracks, and so much more. As we all strive to improve the lives of each person we serve, let us not forget about the partnerships we have and the camaraderie we've created. To each of the service organizations that we have the privilege to walk alongside... Our community is better BECUASE OF YOU! #BeAForceForGood #PartnersNotRivals #ColleaguesNotCompetitors

PROVIDER SPOTLIGHT 🔦 During today's Coalition to End Homelessness in Wichita/Sedgwick County monthly meeting, Amanda McConnell with the Substance Abuse Center of Kansas (center) was recognized for her hard work. She recently went above and beyond to help someone overcome the many barriers homeless individuals experience. Thanks to Amanda, this person is now housed and has an ever-increasing feeling of self-worth! Way to go Amanda and thank you! Our community is better because of you. #ForceForGood

We are wishing a very happy three year work anniversary to the amazing and wonderful Karmen Lewis! Karmen's role is to help our team end homelessness in Wichita and Sedgwick County. She enters client-level and programmatic data for the whole homelessness data tracking network, ensuring accuracy in our system. This accuracy is vital in bringing housing stability to our neighbors. Thank you Karmen and congrats on this anniversary! #ForceForGood #LiveUnited

When food and rent are the priority, quality of life items like toys usually get cut from the budget. Thanks to a partnership with Good360 and Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, we were able to gift thousands of children in our area with toys through our local Toys for Tots distribution. The smiles tell the story, our volunteers and partners made it happen 💪 #ForceForGood #LiveUnited
