Yesterday, I had the opportunity to participate in Intern Volunteer Week with an amazing team at the United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. We came together and packed just under 250 backpacks filled with essential supplies for students in need. ✏️📚 It was a rewarding experience to see the impact we can make when we work together. I’m grateful for the chance to give back to the community and support education for others. 👩🎓👨🎓 A big thank you to United Way and Komatsu North America for presenting this opportunity. This week marks our 4th Annual Intern Volunteer Week at Komatsu. Today marked the first of three volunteer experiences which united our talented interns in positive actions to impact the Greater Milwaukee community. Nearly 20 interns came together in partnership with United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County in support of their Backpack Coalition program. The program is committed to providing backpacks and school supplies to students with financial constraints so they have the tools they need to succeed in school. Our interns were the first group to pack backpacks this summer, so they spent time prepping supplies and packed 250 backpacks for students at Bradley Tech in under an hour!  It was an honor to work alongside this great group of students, we are thankful for their hard work and dedication within Komatsu and beyond. Our Reducing Barriers to Employment & Advancement initiative is anchored in the belief that all adults of working age should have the opportunity to start stable careers, at workplaces where they are treated with dignity and have opportunities to support and provide for their families. When everyone has access to family supporting income from work that affirms their dignity, our whole community is stronger on every level. Our Agency Program Partner, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, Graduation Plus program prepares teens for their futures and aims to provide support and mentorship to help students obtain college access and continue life-long learning. It helps Milwaukee youth go to-and-through college and since its inception, has graduated close to 800 college students, many of whom are debt-free or with manageable student loans.
