Kenny and Daniel's stories are powerful reminders that homelessness is often just one injury, car accident, or medical bill away for too many Angelenos. The high cost of living, coupled with a severe shortage of affordable housing, leaves people like Kenny and Daniel with nowhere to turn. We must continue fighting for real solutions. It’s our collective responsibility to ensure everyone has access to a safe and stable home. https://lnkd.in/gCMsTEGh

Exciting news for Long Beach! 🎉 They just broke ground at 1400 Long Beach Boulevard for a 163-unit affordable housing development by Meta Housing. This project will provide homes for families earning between 30% and 70% of the area median income. 🏠💙 Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson says, “It carries on our commitment to prioritizing affordable housing options for our community, as we continue to produce affordable housing at record levels.” This is big stride toward a more inclusive and affordable future for all. https://lnkd.in/gd464EnW

1/3 California workers are considered low-wage workers. These are people working jobs that keep society functioning - agricultural workers, cashiers, personal care aides, retail salespersons, and cooks. And while there’s been some wage growth since 2015, it’s still not enough to offset high living costs. We must fight for everyone’s right to a living wage, and especially for those who help put food on our tables. https://lnkd.in/g6hnMWSm

Hey L.A.👋 it’s HOT 🥵 We’ve put together some helpful heat-related safety reminders. Most importantly, we hope you’ll do your part to help those especially impacted by the heat! Whether it’s passing out cold water or connecting people to cooling centers, one act of kindness could save a life. Cooling centers are free and open around the county. Dial 211 or visit https://lnkd.in/gCDYcVZS to find the center closest to you or someone in need of help.

Yesterday, we honored and celebrated the incredible career of John Pang, who is retiring after over two decades of dedicated service at the United Way of Greater Los Angeles. John began his journey with us in 2001 as a Loan Executive Officer and quickly became an invaluable asset, advancing to the role of Senior Account Manager. John's passion and commitment to building strong workplace campaigns have left an indelible mark on our organization. His tireless efforts and dedication generated remarkable fundraising results, significantly impacting our community One of the many things that set John apart was his unwavering dedication and passion for building relationships. He often brought his kids along when speaking to employees across LA County, at all hours—from late nights to early mornings. John always instilled a personal touch in his campaigns, inspiring not only his colleagues but also imparting a sense of community and purpose to his children. John, your legacy of hard work, dedication, and community spirit will continue to inspire us all. Thank you for your 23 years of exceptional service and for making a difference in countless lives. We wish you a joyful and fulfilling retirement! Thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration special! A special thanks to Creature Comforts for hosting us in their beautiful space in DTLA. And thank you to all our guests, especially Brissa Sotelo-Vargas, Claudia A., and Aaron Yohnke, who shared some special words (and gifts!) for John. #ThankYouJohn #Retirement #UnitedWayLA #LegacyOfService #CommunityHero
