    CEO, United Airlines' Aviate Academy

This week was the last day of Standardization orientation and ground classes for our flock of newly hired CFIs, all 30 of them! These mostly consist of United Aviate Academy (UAA) graduates will soon be teaching our students who are progressing through our training program to become future United Airlines (UAL) professional pilots. It is our custom to hire our graduates as full-time CFIs (typically their first flying job), teaching students in our training program. This allows them to accumulate the 1500 hours total time that they need to be qualified to be employed with one of our Part 121 regional airlines or Part 135 partners. Only the best are accepted to attend UAA and we only select the best-of-the-best to become CFIs at our Academy. It was really exciting to feel the energy of the room as they transition from that student mindset...to one of instructor!

United Aviate Academy is delighted to announce the induction of its CEO into the Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame. Mr. Michael Hales, a retired officer with 25 years of service in Army Aviation, who brings invaluable leadership experience and a plethora of expertise to this prestigious honor. His stint as Director of Aviation at Delaware State University, a well-known historically black college and university (HBCU), demonstrated his dedication to excellence and innovation in aviation education and industry. During his tenure at Delaware State University, Mr. Hales oversaw the restoration of the aviation program, creating a transformative environment that successfully prepared students for the aviation industry and workforce development. This induction into the Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame recognizes Mr. Hales' exceptional professional accomplishments, and United Aviate Academy gratefully celebrates this important award as a monument to his leadership and vision in the aviation world and at UAA. Congratulations, CEO, Mr. Michael Hales!

Here at United Aviate Academy (UAA), we stand with our LGBTQI community in celebrating Pride Month. UAA is proud to be a part of the United Airlines family who is on the leading edge of inclusion for all. United Aviate Academy is working hard to foster an inclusive work environment where our students will not only thrive but setting the conditions for them to become successful. We also actively help them gain financial support along with mentorship, via the important partnerships we enjoy with national organizations and various other activities. (Below is a snapshot of our UAA local chapter leadership of the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA).

Today is our United Aviate Academy Safety Situational Awareness Day. We have two great sessions for our students in the morning and afternoon, full with keynote speakers from United Airlines along with those from our internal UAA staff. Thank you to Marc Champion and Kirk Limacher for taking time out of your busy schedules to spend quality time talking with our students. Thanks to Cody Gutierrez for your thought-provoking commentary. Well done by our Director of Safety and Security Ray Vester, for all the hard work in setting up this successful event. (Pictures are from the morning session.)
