UniGroup was well represented at the American Trucking Associations (ATA)/Moving & Storage Conference (MSC) 2024 “Call on Washington” event, held in Washington, D.C. earlier this month. Our VP and Deputy General Counsel, Heather Paraino, joined several members of our agency family to advocate for the moving and storage industry. During the event, our team participated in educational and advocacy sessions, including briefings with ATA’s Hill staff, a Q&A with FMCSA Head of HHG Enforcement, and an economic update from leading economists. Along with over 80 moving professionals, they took part in more than 100 meetings with members of Congress and key committee staff, advocating for critical industry issues like protecting the Independent Contractor Model and combatting moving fraud. As Chair of MSC’s Government Affairs Committee, John Chipman played a significant role in organizing the event, which saw a 60% increase in Congressional meetings over the last year. A huge thank you to everyone who made this year’s Van Operator Appreciation Week truly memorable! It was an incredible week filled with teamwork, recognition, and celebration across the UniGroup network. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, supporting departments, and generous sponsors, we came together to show our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our van operators. Over $8,000 in donations were collected to support the week’s activities. Nearly 2,000 van operators received personal thank-you calls from UniGroup employees, and drivers stopping by were treated to lunches and swag bags filled with useful items like 25-ft tape measures, seat belt pads, and safety work gloves. Additionally, we distributed over 100 prizes and giveaways, including tumblers, electric lunch boxes, and gift cards. For those unable to visit St. Louis, virtual games and prize drawings ensured they could still participate and win exciting prizes. We deeply appreciate everyone who contributed to this week and gave back to the van operators we are fortunate to have in our network. This event helps kids feel prepared and excited for their first day of school by offering vision and hearing checks, haircuts, new backpacks, shoes, and much more. UniGroup recently exhibited at the SHRM conference in Chicago. #SHRM24 saw a near record-breaking attendance of more than 26,000 registered in-person and virtual attendees. We loved having the opportunity to network with our existing corporate clients and meet a lot of new faces. Our team was amazed at how many attendees took the time to share personal stories of their moving experiences with United Van Lines and Mayflower. We sat down with UniGroup Claims Manager Chuck Russell to discuss his recent election as president of the Claims Prevention & Procedure Council (CPPC). The CPPC is a non-profit organization focused on claims prevention and loss mitigation. As president, Chuck aims to foster collaboration, identify trends, and share best practices with other industry professionals. Russell said, “This is a great honor, as it continues to allow me the opportunity to represent UniGroup and our brands in a new capacity. Being elected by the council members, I think, also shows UniGroup is seen as a dedicated partner who is eager to collaborate with others and provide excellent customer service.
