“The children here are always cheering for me! They also offer to help push my wheelchair,” says eight-year-old Mahmoud from Syria. Mahmoud and his sisters regularly attend UNICEF-supported summer remedial classes which are designed to bridge education gaps for children who have missed out on learning or are at risk of dropping out. In Aleppo city, Syria, 1,200 children, including those with disabilities, have benefited from the year-long programme, giving them a brighter path forward. “I am happy to be catching up on my education, even if it means not fully having a break during the summer. I want to be successful in the future, and I am studying to do so,” says Mahmoud.

Children in Ukraine are living in fear, displaced from their homes and seeking shelter as the war continues. At least four children were reportedly injured in attacks earlier today in Dnipro, Kyiv and Odesa regions. Essential infrastructure that children depend on has been damaged. A UNICEF mobile team has been on the ground providing affected children and families with emergency psychosocial assistance and other support for their urgent needs. Above all, children need peace.

UNICEF and partners are working to reach over 23,000 children in Pakistan with assistive technology. These hearing aids are more than just devices—they’re life-changing for children like Hoorain and their families.

The spread of poliovirus is a very real threat to the children of Gaza. UNICEF and partners are ready to administer life-saving vaccines. But this requires critical polio pauses - humanitarian pauses in the fighting to allow for two rounds of vaccination. Join us in calling for them.
