About us

Established at UIC in 1975, the Latin American Recruitment and Educational Services (LARES) program, was created to support Latino students throughout their higher education journey. LARES provides holistic services such as academic advising, tutoring, academic skills program (ASP) courses, financial aid application assistance and review, scholarships, development programming, and pre/post graduation advising. As a result of LARES' outstanding efforts, they were awarded the Example in Excelencia Award and Outstanding Institutional Advising Award Program Award by NACADA in 2014. Through activism, LARES has emerged as a premier Latino academic support program in the State of Illinois and the largest academic support unit at UIC.
