Where does Los Angeles get its water? Most people know it comes from far away, but few understand the complex system that delivers it to our taps🚰 UCLA Counterforce Lab’s Yogan Müller published a water book documenting the Los Angeles Aqueduct, a massive infrastructure project that brings water 419 miles from the Owens Valley. Using drones, he captured aerial images that reveal the scale and environmental impact of this system. The book was co-designed with UCLA Design Media Arts students and explores the human stories and social costs of supplying water to a growing city. We love a Double Bruin 🐻 👏 💙 Congrats on your acceptance to UCLA Law!
I am proud to announce that last month, I graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a B.S. in Environmental Science and a minor in Environmental Systems and Society. The past four years have been filled with countless learning opportunities and immense personal growth, and I will forever cherish my time spent as a UCLA undergraduate student. Thank you to UCLA Environment, Alpha Phi International Fraternity, and all of the incredible people who I have met along the way. A special thanks to my family, especially my amazing father, for supporting me through this chapter and never letting me waiver in the pursuit of my goals. Luckily, I don’t have to say goodbye to UCLA just yet, as I will be back in August as a J.D. candidate at University of California, Los Angeles - School of Law!

Over 20 wildfires are burning across California, and a new UCLA study found that wildfire smoke significantly affects bird behavior and health. Researchers found that short-term smoke exposure decreases bird activity, while long-term exposure can lead to weight loss and impact their survival and reproduction. This can have serious consequences for bird populations, especially during crucial breeding and migration periods, said study senior author Morgan Tingley. Hurricane Beryl and Climate Change: Insights from UCLA's Alex Hall 🌪️ UCLA climate scientist Alex Hall discusses Hurricane Beryl for TIME, highlighting how climate change is increasing the likelihood of extreme weather events. “The climate is variable, the weather is variable; we expect there to be extremes. But it’s just that the likelihood of extremes has changed, and the likelihood of these types of events occurring is greater,” Hall said. 📈 He adds that Beryl is unusual because it’s happening so early in the hurricane season, before the warmest ocean temperatures are usually seen. “The fact that we’re seeing this event, that is unprecedented, occurring is entirely consistent with climate change.”

I am so happy to share that earlier this month I graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Environmental Science and a minor in Conservation Biology! These past four years have awarded me amazing experiences and educational opportunities from gardening every Sunday and serving as Maintenance Coordinator at DIG Student Garden at UCLA and putting in many miles with UCLA Club Track & Field, to being a volunteer gardener at the UCLA Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden, working and conducting original research at the UCLA Herbarium, serving as a field research assistant in the UCLA Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology on a common garden experiment in the Santa Monica Mountains, and working on a team in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy for my senior thesis for UCLA Environment. I want to thank all of my professors, peers, friends, and family who aided and supported me throughout this journey, you are what made my time at UCLA so incredible. I am so excited to continue furthering my education this coming Fall as I begin to pursue a Master’s of Science in Biodiversity & Conservation at Queen Mary University of London!
