The Computer Science and Engineering | University at Buffalo student-run Hackathon, UB Hacking, will run again this November and could use sponsorship from some forward-thinking tech partners! If you or your company are interested in sponsoring UB Hacking in some way, let me know and I'll put you in touch with the students who make the Hackathon happen. This is a truly special event that touches the lives and careers of hundreds of students a year, and helps them find what's special about our field, bond with their classmates, and learn a little bit about grit and seeing things through. It is run entirely by students, and they do an amazing job. I remember the tech conferences of the dot-com boom, I've been to countless professionally organized events, and every year these students blow me away with their professionalism and ability to put together an amazingly orchestrated event on volunteer effort and a donation budget. Even their fully-online social-distancing Fall '20 hackathon was an amazing event, far beyond any professional event I attended during pandemic isolation. These students are what our industry needs to thrive and do amazing things. If you can help them out, get in touch!

30 Days at University at Buffalo It's been exactly thirty days since I packed up my life and came to the University at Buffalo as an MS in CS graduate student. It took me three whole days to explore the entire campus, but just one look was enough to fall in love. The color blue makes me feel at home. A week of orientation packed with fun interactions, exposure, and awareness. A big campus fest featured over 100 clubs recruiting members, offering countless possibilities to learn and lead - Yes, I applied to many of them. What I've Learned So Far: No question is too small: All my professors answered every question with a smile on their face. Show up: All you need to do is show up sometimes. Say hi: A simple "hi" can go a long way—I met amazing people with diverse backgrounds just by waving at them in the hallway. Stay in the moment: Your present is more important than your past and future. Computer Science and Engineering | University at Buffalo Go bulls 🤘!!
