At #USSteel we demonstrate a deep commitment to advancing equity and inclusion within our workplace. Today, we celebrate #NationalDisabilityIndependenceDay, commemorating the Americans with Disabilities act #ADA that was signed into law almost 35 years ago to prohibit discrimination based on a disability. Here at U. S. Steel, we have been designated a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” for the fourth year in a row! Through our SteelABILITY Employee Resource Group, we strive to foster an environment where employees with disabilities, as well as employees who care for people with disabilities, feel empowered to bring 100% of themselves to work. We do so by advocating for and empowering individuals, increasing understanding of disability related issues, and promoting inclusion and respect within both U. S. Steel and our communities.

At #USSteel, we are determined to find new ways of combining our expertise with breakthrough technology. We are collaborating with Molten Industries and CPFD Software on a pilot scale carbon-neutral steel production project that has the potential to eliminate up to 60 million tons of CO2 from U.S. crude steel production. We will contribute our iron ore to the project, funded by a $5.4M grant from the U.S Department of Energy. This project will help us take one step closer to a more sustainable future. Once again #USSteel has earned a top score of 100 on the #DisabilityEqualityIndex along with our fourth consecutive designation as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.” Broad, ongoing efforts to change the narrative regarding the unemployment and underemployment of people with disabilities is a corporate imperative at U. S. Steel, one that is greatly enhanced and supported by our SteelABILITY employee resource group. We are honored and inspired to be counted among those building a more inclusive, and therefore better, corporate landscape worldwide.

Under Leo’s leadership as elected President of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Softball League, slow-pitch softball now thrives in the area with over 600 athletes today, including Leo’s youngest daughter.
