Thank you for the update, Austin! Sending thoughts for a safe recovery to all of the TCMA members affected by Beryl!
As a City Manager sometimes you think you know how things will go, and then life happens. Last week I was spending some quality time on vacation with my family, but keeping an eye on a major storm named Beryl. After a few days it became apparent that I'd be leaving my family on vacation so I could get back to be in the Emergency Operations Center. The team did a great job in response to this event. It all went as smooth as it could have. We are now into the recovery efforts and coordinating with CenterPoint on electricity restoration. At the peak over 2.2 million CenterPoint customers in the Houston area were without power, at this point it is still over 1.7 million customers out. We are preparing for a few days yet in the recovery process. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this event. Emergency Management is a real part of the city manager life in an area like this. And as with many parts of being a city manager a huge shout out to my family for their love and understanding during these emergencies! #Beryl #LocalGoverment #ICMA #TCMA #EmergencyManagement
