Thank you to our faculty, staff, students, alumni, community partners, Tufts University, and others who believe in "Educating Practical Visionaries." https://lnkd.in/dssUbRn We're honored to be recognized among the leading planning schools. We also acknowledge the limitations of such rankings and appreciate the exceptional contributions of our fellow planning schools. About us
For more than four decades, the Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University has been a place where students, faculty, and the community at large turn vision into practice. UEP’s mission is centered at the intersection of planning, policy, justice, and sustainability. Our alumni play critical roles in government, nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, NGOs, and the private sector, in the U.S. and across the world. UEP offers two Master’s degree programs designed to sharpen the skills of policy and planning professionals working toward inclusive, just, and sustainable communities: Master of Arts in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning, which is accredited in urban planning and requires two years of full-time study. Master of Public Policy for mid-career professionals, which can be completed in one year of full-time or two years of part-time study. In addition, UEP offers certificate programs for students at various stages of their careers: Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Urban Justice and Sustainability, a low-residency program for accomplished professionals who already have a master’s degree. Three flexible certificates programs to enable working adults to enhance existing careers, move into new professional work, or prepare for a graduate degree program: Management of Community Organizations Community Environmental Studies Program Evaluation UEP has strong partnerships and dual degree programs with other Tufts departments and schools (including Economics, Biology, Child Study and Human Development, Engineering, Fletcher, the Friedman School of Nutrition, and the School of Medicine), as well as with the Boston College Law School and School of Management.

UEP Associate Professor Mary Davis's recently published book, Jobs, Health, and the Meaning of Work, was rated among the top 50 Business and Economics books coming out this fall by Publisher's Weekly. The book is also ranked #1 in Amazon's Hot New Releases in Labor & Industrial Economic Relations. Congrats, Mary!
So excited that my book is finally available for pre-order on Amazon! Publisher’s Weekly rated it among the top 50 Business and Economics books coming out this fall. “A fascinating and well-researched book that explains how work can be rewarding and bring joy and meaning to life, how it can damage physical or mental health, and, most importantly, how we can shape work so it makes our lives better, not worse.”—David Michaels, former administrator of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration https://lnkd.in/eF6snbYG

UEP’s Racial Equity in Policy and Planning (REPP) program has just finished its second year, supporting five fellows in each cohort of UEP’s 2-year MA/MS degree and building the broader learning community of students, alumni, practitioners, and community partners. Our first cohort of five fellows graduated in May. The second cohort is doing a variety of internships this summer. We have recruited a third cohort who will start in the fall semester. Through REPP, UEP is attracting students who want to further develop themselves as racial justice change agents in policy and planning. To learn more, check out REPP’s Spring 2024 report. Summer Course Opportunity: Negotiation & Conflict Resolution There's still room in Maya Townsend's Negotiation and Conflict Resolution course in the second summer session, which starts on July 2! It should be a really valuable learning opportunity. Please sign up if it interests you. Here's her invitation: Conflict is a part of everyday life. We face it at work, in our communities, and in our families. Despite the prevalence of conflict, few people engage in formal education on how to transform conflict from something that destroys and separates to a force for learning and positive outcomes. This course merges scholarship with practice by engaging students in a semester-long exploration of conflict techniques. Students develop skills in negotiation, cross-cultural conflict fluency, constructive controversy, and other conflict-related techniques. This course is especially helpful for those responsible for helping diverse groups and those with divergent experiences, values, and priorities agree on satisfactory outcomes. Click here to view the syllabus. https://lnkd.in/eBifRBpu More about Maya: Maya Townsend is the founder and lead consultant of Partnering Resources LLC, a management consultancy that has worked with Fortune 500, government, university, and nonprofit organizations since 2004. Her practice focuses on developing human-centered organizations and conflict-positive cultures. She has supported partners in conflict about the future of their company, managers seeking to improve internal relationships, and community coalitions resolving tensions in order to work together more effectively. She is one of only three certified trainers in the United States in Deep Democracy, a unique conflict resolution methodology that emerged as apartheid was lifted in South Africa to help organizations grapple with their legacies of oppression and trauma. Maya is also certified in the Conflict Dynamics Profile. She is co-editor of Handbook for Strategic HR: Best Practices in Organization Development from the OD Network (AMACOM, 11/2012) and has published in numerous outlets, including Humanistic Management Journal, Nonprofit Quarterly, strategy business, People & Strategy, and the OD Review. In her free time, Maya serves as a volunteer housing tester for Suffolk University.
