I met Michelle in person at ISM this year. FINALLY. She’s a hoot. Ball of energy (and then some). Witty. Funny. Incredible life story. I had to have her on our show. Would not take no for an answer. Michelle is responsible for value engineering at Trust Your Supplier (their solution ensures you have all the info you need on your suppliers – all of the time). The deets on Michelle: - Brought up in a farm – 5am calls to milk the cows, feed the chickens before and after school. Had 2 weeks off school every year to do potato picking – boy that was manual labor. - Failed her entrance exam to grammar school – back then it was not always how intelligent you were but also who you knew – a hierarchy of businessmen, free masons etc. - Represented her country in badminton and gymnastics. - 1st in family to go to University. - 2 degrees, 2 Masters and a PhD (MBA in the USA) Mad facts: - Got engaged after 5 DAYS! Married 31 years!! - Told her dad she was on my way home from University – he thought Northern Ireland – she actually boarded a flight to JFK with about $50 and stayed 3 years. - Kissed Bon Jovi – that’s a fact!!!! - Take a cold water plunge every morning (even in the winter) - Takes a University class every year to keep the old brain ticking – this year it is on the psychology of the C-suite mind. - Goes on hiking holidays on her own to raise money for charity – Cambodia, China, Borneo, Argentina and this year It is Dali lama trek (Nepal and Northern Inda) – charity is Prostrate cancer – recently lost her dad. - Can’t swim but have done coasteering and diving regularly – if her children can do it she sure as hell am. - Loves to laugh – belly laugh – it doesn’t happen often anymore – don’t why that is as we get older, but a good laugh changes an entire outlook Her Heros: Mum – she was married at 16 – 5 children and she told her to get out and live her life. Math teacher – girls can be scientists /engineers and introduced Michelle to Kathrine Johnson and Dorothy Vaughn – phenomenal mathematicians, scientists, female and trail blazers for equality. Today mentors have changed for so many reason – innovation, diversity, character, management and a “I am getting on with it attitude” Join us live Wednesday to learn about Michelle’s life journey.
