Updates

  • Today, RWJBarnabas Health experienced an unexpected global Microsoft outage that, if not managed aggressively and effectively, could have caused significant disruption to the health system. While we continue to work through technical issues, normal operations have resumed across the system. The ingenuity and teamwork demonstrated by RWJBarnabas Health’s workforce was exemplary. Led by the system’s Information Technology Department and Office of Emergency Management, their tireless efforts to resolve issues quickly and efficiently were critical in maintaining patient safety during a time of uncertainty. We thank our patients and community members for their patience and support, and commend our employees for their unwavering dedication and commitment. #LetsBeHealthyTogether

  • Some systems at RWJBarnabas Health have been impacted by the Global Microsoft outage. This is not a cyberattack. Our teams are working to remediate the issue as soon as possible. As always, patient safety is our highest priority. Out of an abundance of caution, we are delaying some scheduled procedures until this situation is resolved and will share updates as they are available. Thank you for your patience. #LetsBeHealthyTogether

  • Shalanena Dickerson, BSN, RN, the 2024 recipient of the Janice Pasko Nursing Excellence Award, has worked in the PACU for the past 4 years. Her grandmother and her aunt were both nurses and although she was also good at sewing and thought she might want to be an interior designer, she said, “I’ve always loved taking care of people. My grandfather told me when I was about 7 years old that I would be a nurse one day.” When she became a teen mother, she says, “I thought my dream of becoming a nurse would not happen because of the statistics and people telling me how hard it would be for me. But I finally faced my fears and went to school. My superpower is the ability to make any situation better. I can turn lemons to lemonade, no matter the circumstances I face; I am able to persevere. I am very resilient.” In 2018, she graduated from Trinitas School of Nursing and has worked at Trinitas ever since. “I love working here because it is very family oriented, and my co-workers are great. It’s like a big family.” Every May, Trinitas recognizes nurses like Shalanena that go above and beyond to deliver compassionate patient care with Nursing Excellence Awards. Denise Trejos, RN, BSN, CNOR is the 2024 recipient of the Lillian Bolden Nursing Excellence Award. Denise was a single parent and a medical assistant for 12 years before becoming a nurse. When the doctors she worked with encouraged her to look into nursing, she listened. “The doctors encouraged me and said I had a gift,” she said. “I wanted a career so I could take care of my kids without having to rely on anybody.” After working at Trinitas in different areas of perioperative nursing for the past nine years, she says, “I have the ability to see both sides of things and am very empathetic. I believe that’s a superpower.” Having grown up in Elizabeth, Denise is committed to this area. “Trinitas is my community. I grew up and went to school here. My parents are from Colombia and Ecuador, and I love serving the Hispanic population. I enjoy communicating and relating to them; they feel like family. I’ve had opportunities to work elsewhere, but I choose to stay at Trinitas.” Every May, Trinitas recognizes nurses like Denise that go above and beyond to deliver compassionate patient care with Nursing Excellence Awards.
