  • Sean Pangilinan, BSN, RN, a behavioral health nurse at the New Point Campus, is the 2024 recipient of the Rising Star Award. Sean came to Trinitas one year ago after working in medical-surgical and home care nursing for the previous four years. “I’ve held numerous jobs in health care before becoming a nurse and found that I felt a sense of purpose and accomplishment when helping my patients,” he says. “I enjoyed being able to positively impact the lives of others, so naturally, I became a nurse.” In addition to his routine tasks, he says, “Sometimes we have to calm patients down. Sometimes they just need someone to listen to them. Patience, empathy, and a level head go a long way. It can get busy, but there’s good supporting staff at Trinitas. My superpower is being calm and a good listener. I attribute these qualities to my success here as a nurse.” Though Sean has been offered opportunities to work elsewhere, he says, “I couldn't ask for a better team than the one I have at Trinitas. Everyone is supportive and willing to help. The staff is friendly, experienced and I've learned so much from them.” Every May, Trinitas recognizes nurses like Sean that go above and beyond to deliver compassionate patient care with Nursing Excellence Awards. • Juanito Solomon, the 2024 recipient of the Mental Health Worker of the Year Award, received his bachelor’s in nursing degree in the Philippines in 1998. In 2019, he and his entire family immigrated to the US by way of petition by his father, who became a mental health worker in the Behavioral Health Department at the New Point Campus, and Solomon came to the Williamson Street Campus as a storeroom clerk in Food & Nutrition. In 2020, when his father passed away from COVID, Solomon followed in his professional footsteps and is now a Mental Health Worker Degreed. “I became a mental health worker because I believe every person, no matter what they are, who they are, what they have done in the past or whatever race, gender, sexuality, and religion, all deserve health care service that treats them equally and adequately.” Solomon’s passion for his profession is evident. “I choose to work at Trinitas because of the professionalism, diversity and equality that exists here,” he says. “After years of looking for the right workplace for me, this is where I settled, and I love the environment.” It’s only natural that with passion comes compassion, he says. “My superpower is taking care, being compassionate and having a meaningful relationship with my patients.” Every May, Trinitas recognizes health care workers like Juanito that go above and beyond to deliver compassionate patient care with Nursing Excellence Awards.
