  • Having trouble meeting those deadlines? Here are some great study habits that translate well to the workplace! 1. Don't cram. Set aside a little bit of time every day, even if it is just 15 minutes, to work on something coming up. Cramming only leads to more stress and burns you out even quicker! 2. Put on unobtrusive music that you enjoy. Having some background noise helps some people focus their thoughts and calm nerves when working on the next big thing. 3. Schedule regular breaks. Taking breaks is good for the mind and the body! Get up and stretch, grab some water and a snack, and give yourself 15 minutes to breathe before jumping back in. 4. Give yourself grace. You are only human and can only do so much, same as anybody else! Letting yourself know this takes a lot of pressure off, while allowing your brain a bit more space to work. #tridentliteracy #deadlines #studying #adulteducationmatters

  • From learning about personal finance management to algebra, Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs provide individuals with the skills they require in day-to-day life. But what exactly does ABE cover? ABE offers a lot for adults seeking self improvement. Financial and digital literacy programs teach fund management and online basics. Literacy classes improve reading and writing skills. Finally, GED preparation for the sections covered on the GED exams. Financial literacy gives students the opportunity to learn how to manage their personal finances, build up credit, borrow money, and get rid of debt. Using math problems, economic principles, and more, students are taught how to best manage their finances. Digital literacy helps students explore online spaces safely and effectively. Many of these classes teach Internet safety to avoid scams and fraud and how to browse the web. Signing up for email accounts, creating profiles on social media platforms, and using apps like Google Drive or Microsoft Office are often covered, as well. Literacy programs utilize phonics, phonemic awareness, and more to increase the students’ reading level. Through repeated practice of reading and writing combined with manageable goals, these classes are made for improving the reading level of students. GED preparation covers the “pillars” of education. Mathematics, English language arts, science, and social studies. These programs follow the GED prep book from the official GED website, using the practice problems and exercises alongside instruction to prepare students for the exams. Adult Basic Education programs provide something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to understand investing or going for your GED credential, ABE helps many people learn, grow, and improve their lives.

  • This summer, Trident Literacy hosted an English as a Second Language Conversation Bootcamp for interested ESL students. Though typically closed to students in the summer to give a much-needed break to staff and students alike, many of our ESL students were disappointed that they could not continue to learn during the summer months. They wanted to keep up with learning the language all year long! Thus, the English as a Second Language Conversation Bootcamp was born. This two-week program had students come in daily to learn conversational English. With three different levels – beginner, intermediate, and advanced – students worked at their own level of skill as the improved. Trident Literacy is happy to report the roaring success of this new summer program! After the two weeks were up, participating students said they felt more comfortable not only with common conversations, but with discussing more complex topics as well. Due to our students’ needs and the success of the ESL Conversation Bootcamp, Trident Literacy plans to host this summer program, or at least something like it, again. #tridentliteracy #studentsuccess #englishasasecondlanguage #esl

  • In our constantly evolving world, it's more important than ever to continue to learn, grow, and expand your knowledge. Whether you are already a seasoned professional or are just starting your journey, becoming a lifelong learner is essential not only for personal growth, but career development. This is especially true for those within adult education programs. Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs provide a baseline for learners to feel confident in newfound skills, understandings, and information. Ranging from GED® preparation courses to English as a Second Language, ABE programs promote growth in students. By facilitating knowledge, these classes teach and hone skills needed to thrive in the modern workforce. So, how does this translate to the professional world? The knowledge taught in ABE programs keeps students up-to-date in new and evolving workplaces. Digital literacy classes can help an individual navigate the internet, create an email account, establish an online presence, and even apply for jobs. More specialized programs allow students to obtain certifications to either land a job they could not previously, or receive a promotion at their current workplace. The opportunities, skills, and perspectives unlocked by Adult Basic Education programs are invaluable to our society. By becoming lifelong Learners and pursuing knowledge, students in ABE classes give themselves a leg up not only as professionals, but as individuals as well. #adulteducation #professionaldevelopment #tridentliteracy
