Inspiring Moments!!! Last week at a JPMorganChase event for business owners, I had the incredible opportunity to meet the legendary @Laila Ali, daughter of the one and only Muhammad Ali. Not only is Laila a world-renowned boxer, but her words truly packed a punch, leaving all of us in the room feeling empowered and ready to take on any challenge. Her message about confidence resonated deeply with me: "Confidence comes from preparation. It's not just about feeling like you can do anything—it's knowing you can because you've put in the work, laid the foundation, and stayed disciplined. Surround yourself with people who will take the time to listen, understand your needs, and help guide you in the right direction. Never stop asking, never stop being curious, and never stop believing in yourself. If others can do it, so can you." This hit home. As business owners, we face challenges daily, but with determination, discipline, and a supportive network, we can overcome anything. Thank you, Laila, for the powerful reminder that confidence is built through preparation and persistence. Back in the day when I was in grade school, there was a lady called Ukku who was my mom’s woman Friday. She did everything from cooking and cleaning to helping raise us. In our family, the work was never ending. But she worked on seemingly auto mode, and the only time she stopped to take a break was when she watched TV with my grandaunt, while chewing tobacco. But the chores were done like clockwork. Flash forward, when I came to the US twenty odd years ago, I was pleasantly (at first) surprised at how many machines did one Ukku’s job. When reality hit, lugging around the heavy duty vacuum brought new respect for her efficiency. A few years later came the Roomba. Your own personal Ukku, teased my brother. Why am I walking down Lane Nostalgia? As Trident places some of the sharpest AI minds in dynamic positions, and is taking on AI projects, I am torn between feeling empathy for the thousands who are being replaced by AI agents and absolute admiration for where it’s taking us. I think back to my history books and remember reading about a similar eruption during the Industrial Revolution. And then at the start of The Internet. And now this. Seems so unfair that so many intelligent, hard-working people are being replaced. Minorities and diversity candidates are just about finding acceptance and having their voices heard, and now this. I know and hear of so many post-natal women returning to the work force only to find that their positions are closed; so many young women who’ve had to cross hurdles to graduate, and discover entry level jobs are now automated; and offshore workers who work day and night so their clients can offer 24x7x365 days of customer service are simply no longer needed. It’s a tsunami alright. Seems like the only ones who cannot be replaced are those from the arts and humanities. There will be more poets, writers, actors, and singers in the Gen Alpha. And no intelligence on this planet or otherwise can replace creativity. Even Ukku would agree.
