🌱 The significance of soil microbiomes for the health of plants, animals, and humans is increasingly recognized in scientific research. By better understanding these interconnections, we can make significant progress toward more sustainable agriculture and overall well-being. Soil microbiomes, composed of bacteria, fungi, archaea, and viruses, play an essential role in soil health. These microorganisms break down organic matter, recycle nutrients, and protect crops from harmful pathogens. 🌍 Regenerative farming practices, which promote biodiversity and avoid chemical pesticides and fertilizers, help develop soils rich in beneficial microbes. 🌱 Great News from the Tribiome Project! 🌱 We are pleased to share that one of our partners, Rete Semi Rurali ETS Rurali, recently participated in the 4th Workshop on the Implementation of Plant-Microbe Interactions in Plant Breeding, held on 19 July 2024 at the University and Research Centre in Tulln an der Donau, Austria. Organized by the EUCARPIA Plant-Microbe Interactions Section Organic and Low-Input Agriculture working group, this workshop brought together 30 participants to foster scientific and technical cooperation in plant breeding. The workshop focused on building a network between plant breeders and scientists to explore plant-microbe interactions in breeding practices. Key topics included: 🌿 Innovative tools for analyzing microbiomes (e.g., nanopores, AI) 🔗 Networking opportunities in EU projects on microbiome research 🌾 Seed microbiome & endophytes 🌱 Genomic prediction of beneficial microbiomes 🧬 From correlation to biological functions of plant-microbiome interaction 🌿 Improvement of biological qualities and overcoming registration barriers Participants engaged in a "world café" session, discussing various topics, and sharing results in a plenary session. 🌱 Tribiome: News from the field 🌱 We are excited to share updates on our recent progress! In early June, we held 2 successful workshops in Firenze to validate the development of our digital decision-making platform. These workshops featured participation from farmers and agricultural technicians, who tested our technology firsthand. 👩🌾 Additionally, we took the opportunity to establish a network of "modulator" trialists in Italy, preparing for future trials. 🔜 Next steps involve engaging the network of operational groups to further test our modulators and decision-making technology.
