A system impacted led organization that addresses individual & systemic harms via Restorative Justice circle processes.
About us
The Transformational Prison Project (TPP) was founded in 2013 in MCI-Norfolk, Massachusetts’ largest prison which houses the nation’s oldest population of men serving life sentences. The first participants found healing and transformation. As influencers in the prison system, their modeling of change encouraged others to join, as well. TPP grew from MCI-Norfolk to five more MA correctional institutions—reaching thousands of incarcerated men and women. Now, TPP is led by four formerly incarcerated individuals who personally benefited from TPP’s programs while incarcerated. They are examples of the positive impact that TPP’s work can have on individuals and are dedicating their lives to change the lives of others.

So blessed to witness the journey… Sean K Ellis is a perfect example of how ‘broken systems break people’ yet he is #woundedbutnotbroken
Social Impact Programming and Mission-Driven Culture | Gallery Curator and Creative Strategist | Driving Brand Strength & Community Engagement
He is #WoundedButNotBroken. This #blackhistorymonth join Sean K Ellis and Mayor Denise Simmons in conversation. Together they will touch upon the systemic racial biases and flaws within the justice system. The intersection of their experiences, both figures who have first-hand knowledge of Boston’s socio-political climate, offers invaluable insight on the complexities of this local story. This story of Ellis's wrongful conviction and incarceration for 22 years can be viewed on the Netflix documentary, Trial 4 and is compelling viewing. The event is a must-attend for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of social justice and contribute to positive change in our community. Your presence will enhance the richness of the discussions, and your unique perspective will be a valuable addition to the conversation LabCentral. This event will be catered by Comfort Kitchen Boston,a Black-owned, immigrant-owned, and woman-owned business and is open to the public. As always, thank you to our sponsor Thermo Fisher Scientific! The holidays are a joyous time of year, but also bring with them a lot of stress. Family, dietary changes, spending money, travel, and many other stressors can turn this celebratory time into one of anxiety, depression, anger, grief, and worse. Even the most privileged among us experience these seasonal ups and downs, even in the best of times. Now imagine experiencing all of that stress for the first time, months, weeks, or even days after spending decades in prison. Imagine experiencing all of that stress for the first time after the loss of a loved one to community violence. Imagine experiencing all of that stress while a parent or a child sits hundreds of miles away behind bars. Hundreds of thousands of people are dealing with those realities this holiday season without access to adequate and culturally competent mental health care, and we all suffer for it. At TPP, we are doing our part to reduce the barriers to healing so that people on the inside and out can have access to no-cost mental health care all year round. Please support us in that cause. Every dollar you donate will go to a neighbor, a mother, a child, in need of healing.
