We've been yelled at. We've been sworn at. We've been called names. We asked people to leash their dogs on Town property. We warned that an incident will have consequences. And it happened last week - an unleashed dog bit a resident at Whitehall. So, yell all you want, we had no choice but to get our friends in blue involved. SPPD officers have increased patrols in and around our parks and trails to enforce the Town's leash ordinance. Is it worth a citation and the financial costs? You decide. https://lnkd.in/emfrAdQP

  • We love dogs. All dogs. Most of us own dogs (or do they own us?). But most of us also obey the rules and common courtesy of having our dogs on leashes when asked. Unfortunately, a small few feel that the rules don't apply to them - or that our parks should be leash optional (they are not - except for the wonderful Martin Dog Park). Unfortunately, an unleashed dog recently attacked a resident at Whitehall causing significant flesh puncture wounds. As a result, SPPD has increased patrols in and around our parks and trails - and will be issuing citations to owners with dogs off leash. It is the law in Southern Pines that dogs in public spaces be on a leash at all times. This includes Reservoir Park, Whitehall Park, Campbell House, Downtown Park, the Greenway Trail Systems, the Athletic Fields, and more. Southern Pines Police Department will increase patrols around, and in, our parks and trails. Warnings will be given to dog owners who have their animals off leash and citations will be administered for repeated offenses. The fine is $50 per incident with up to $300 in associated court fees.

  • What's going on? Why is my street closed? Is garbage being picked up this holiday? The Town of Southern Pines utilizes CodeRed to notify residents of upcoming road closures, utilities maintenance, and refuse schedule changes. These notifications are specifically sent to only those directly effected. In times of emergency the Town can notify residents through the system of critical information. You can choose to receive phone, text or email messages - or all three. You choose. #lovewhereyoulive #southernpinesnc #thesouthernpinesway
