Thank you Eric Richardson for highlighting the comprehensive set of resources and tools presented in the Direct Vision Transition Guide. Work like this is made possible through TSR’s collaborative, partnership-based approach to road safety. We look forward to sharing more at the Vision Fleet Safety Forum on 10/30.
We are proud to announce the release of the “Direct Vision Transition Guide: An Operator’s Guide to Transforming Fleets for Safety.” The first of its kind in North America, this Guide addresses the critical issue of blindzones in commercial trucks and offers a comprehensive roadmap to reducing crashes, fatalities, and injuries by enhancing driver visibility via a focus on vehicle design. This Guide was written to provide fleet operators in the public and private sectors with clear, one-stop-shop information on why visibility is an issue and what they can do about it, and draw awareness to the role that driver visibility plays in roadway fatalities in the US. It offers fleet operators step-by-step directions for measuring the visibility of vehicles in their existing fleet, using TSR’s 5-Star Rating Tool, and identifies direct vision vehicles that are available on the US market. The Guide also spotlights fleet operators and manufacturers who are leading the way to safer streets by adding direct vision trucks to their fleets. And a special thank you to Estrella Merlos and Catalina Garcia. Don't miss the Vision Zero Fleet Safety forum on 10/30. Register here: https://bit.ly/4d63Sbo #VisionZero
With Climate Week in full steam, DCAS Fleet is promoting fleet sustainability and electric vehicles far and wide. At the same time, in partnership with the United Nations, we have multiple events promoting new safety approaches for fleet. Together, this reflects our long-term commitment to both emission reduction and safety improvement as part of what we call Fleet Sustainability. These go together as priorities, and often in fleet design itself. We launched our nation leading Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) program with all-electric Chevy Bolts. Electric trucks offer a great opportunity to re-design trucks for high vision. On September 24, NYC Citywide Administrative Services hosted Together for Safer Roads and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), representatives from countries around the world, and important fleets like Interstate Waste Services, Inc., UPS, City Harvest, and AB InBev to discuss and promote common fleet safety strategies including telematics, high vision design, improved training, and truck side-guards. Our meeting with UNITAR reinforces another important theme, which is also represented in NYC Executive Order 53 of 2020. Fleet is a national and international industry. Changes in fleet and truck design and best practices for safety and sustainability require all of us - commercial fleets, non-profits, government, manufacturers- pushing these themes and changes together in partnership and with focus. One of those key themes is Direct Vision for trucks. Congratulations to Together for Safer Roads for publishing on May 25 their Direct Vision Transition Guide. https://lnkd.in/eUUuB_H8 DCAS was proud to partner on this effort. We will have more to say on direct vision at our Fleet Safety Forum on October 30 at Queens Theatre. Nothing about changing the fleet industry is easy; it is however essential. Thanks to many for participating in the safety event including Peter Goldwasser, Catalina Garcia, Estrella Merlos, Claudia Juárez, Dontai Smalls, Sal Mastriani, Nathaniel Koszer, Gary Prasad, María José Orantes, Tanya Hinestroza, Jessica Whitaker, Ana Beatriz Vasconcelos, Henry Castañeda, André Colin, Michael Fowles, and Brianna D..

TSR Executive Director, Peter Goldwasser, has a new OpEd in the New York Daily News. In his piece, “Truck of the Future Offers New York City a New Direction for Safer Fleets,” Peter highlights the cutting-edge road safety technology used in our recently completed Truck of the Future pilot program to help reduce truck-related injuries and fatalities in urban environments. Through public-private partnerships with fleets operated by NYC Citywide Administrative Services and AB InBev incorporating innovative safety solutions like AI-enhanced surround cameras, TSR and our members are driving real change in fleet safety by protecting Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) and creating safer vehicles, drivers, and streets.
