K-12 Dive recently highlighted Kayleigh Baker, J.D., a Senior Consultant at TNG Consulting and a member of the ATIXA (Association of Title IX Administrators) Advisory Board, in an article discussing the 2024 Final Rule: “If I were Title IX coordinator at a district or an assistant superintendent... I’d want to be warning folks that we might see a lot more cases than we’re used to. That doesn’t necessarily mean our school district is less safe... but I think that that’s going to be a result of these regulations.” https://hubs.li/Q02HRnmG0

TNG Senior Consultant and ATIXA (Association of Title IX Administrators) Advisory Board member Kayleigh Baker, J.D., was recently interviewed for K-12 Dive and insightfully shared, "It’s not limited to states that already have an injunction, or even states that have filed litigation against Title IX. This is really uncharted territory when it comes to Title IX regulations. It’s really coming school-by-school.” Read the article here: https://hubs.li/Q02H6Q590

Over 670 institutions across the U.S. are facing a temporary injunction against the 2024 Regulations. In a recent conversation with Inside Higher Ed, Brett Sokolow, J.D., described this move as a "clever legal strategy" aimed at achieving a nationwide injunction, precisely what organizations like Young America’s Foundation, Female Athletes United, and Moms for Liberty were striving for. Sokolow added, "I wouldn’t be surprised to see the number of institutions affected by this injunction double or even triple. They could effectively serve as the equivalent of a nationwide ban." We're excited to announce that Mandy Hambleton, M.S., and Mikiba W. Morehead, Ed.D., from TNG Consulting and ATIXA (Association of Title IX Administrators), will be presenting at the Association on Higher Education And Disability (AHEAD)'s 47th annual conference, "Equity & Excellence: Access in Higher Education." Date: Wednesday, July 17 Time: 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm (Block 3) Location: Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor Topic: Navigating the Intersection of Title IX and Disability Support for Pregnancy and Related Conditions The new Title IX regulations provide practitioners with a prime opportunity to revisit how institutions are providing support for individuals who are pregnant or have related conditions. Both Title IX and disability resource offices have obligations to support this population, but there is often confusion about who should provide support and when. This presentation will review the new Title IX regulations, including making a distinction between supportive measures under Title IX and reasonable accommodations under disability law, share key takeaways from recent Office for Civil Rights (OCR) resolution agreements with higher education institutions regarding pregnant students, and discuss how Title IX and disability resource staffs can collaborate to develop and implement a seamless support process. Attendees will participate in a series of case studies to apply the concepts from the presentation. https://hubs.li/Q02GQNRz0

Today, we celebrate International Non-Binary People’s Day! Non-binary, often called “enby,” is an inclusive, valid, and beautifully unique identity. As we celebrate, it's essential to recognize the struggles and discrimination non-binary individuals face. In a society that often only acknowledges two genders, non-binary people may feel erased and invalidated, leading to isolation, anxiety, and depression. To combat this, we should educate ourselves on non-binary identities and strive for a more inclusive society. This includes using gender-neutral language, respecting stated pronouns, and advocating for equal rights for all genders. Did you know? Katje van Loon started International Non-Binary People’s Day in 2012, choosing a date midway between International Women’s Day (March 8) and International Men’s Day (November 19). In 2016, Elisa Rae Shupe became the first person in the US to have a non-binary gender legally recognized on official documents. Learn more: https://hubs.li/Q02G5vdy0

Today marks the 52nd anniversary of Title IX. Championed by visionary leaders Representative Patsy Mink of Hawaii, Representative Edith Green of Oregon, Bernice (Bunny) Sandler of the Women’s Equity Action League, and Senator Birch Bayh of Indiana, and introduced as part of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, Title IX has dismantled barriers to academic and athletic opportunities for all genders. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, in 1970, 9.6% of U.S. medical enrollment was female; in 2019, enrollment was 50.5% female. Furthermore, according to the Women’s Sports Foundation, before Title IX, 1 in 27 girls played sports; today, that number is 2 in 5. The impact of Title IX extends beyond academic and athletic access. ATIXA’s 2023 State of the Field Survey revealed that 90% of climate surveys conducted at respondents’ educational institutions explicitly addressed sexual violence, indicating a strong commitment to confronting the issue head-on.
