My latest for Green Building Advisor... Wood fiber insulation has been slowly finding its way into North American homebuilding markets of late, thanks to Maine-based TimberHP. In 2023, the start-up and offshoot of #OPALArchitecture, founded by Matthew O'Malia and Joshua Henry, cut the ribbon on its 600,000-sf manufacturing facility in a repurposed paper mill in Madison, ME. And in 2024, TimberHP formalized a partnership with CertainTeed, the North American subsidiary of sustainable products giant Saint-Gobain, to distribute its wood fiber insulation products - loose fill, batt, and continuous board - throughout the continent, including as its exclusive distributor in Canada. #Woodfiberinsulation is a sustainable, renewable, and high-performance alternative to the standard fiberglass, foam, and other synthetic insulation materials that currently dominate the market. We know from your calls, emails, and DMs that many of you, like us, are eagerly anticipating the release of TimberBoard. In the spirit of transparency, we want to provide you with an update on the status of the product's release. Each of our three products requires its own manufacturing line, with the line for TimberBoard being the most complex. In 2017, we purchased decommissioned manufacturing equipment from Europe. We had it carefully broken down, crated, and shipped to our mill in Madison. Since then, millwrights, electrical and instrumentation specialists, engineers, and operators have been doing a phenomenal job re-commissioning this complex equipment and process, learning as we go.   As the first company in North America to undertake this, we are working with a general contractor, engineers, technicians, consultants, and equipment from around the world. This large, coordinated effort takes time, more time than we initially anticipated. Once the line is up and running, producing TimberBoard, we will still need to complete the testing and certification process. Our goal is to ensure that when TimberBoard arrives at your job site, it meets our highest standards of performance and quality.   Things are coming together, not quite like we expected, but it's all still in motion, and we can’t wait! As much as we hoped to bring our board to market by the end of this year, our updated anticipated launch will happen in the early part of 2025. Stay tuned for an exact date!   We are actively seeking input and feedback from those of you eagerly awaiting its release.
