38 communities selected by FEMA to receive technical assistance for preparedness exercises! FEMA's exercise experts will collaborate closely with each jurisdiction chosen to design, conduct, and evaluate their approved exercises. This initiative allows communities to familiarize personnel with emergency roles, assess and validate preparedness plans, and identify strengths and areas for improvement. The selected exercise topics cover natural threats like hurricanes and earthquakes, human-caused threats, and technological hazards. 18 local governments, 12 state entities, US territories, Tribal Nations, academic institutions, and Urban Area Security Initiatives are among those receiving support. $400,000 available in funding for the Homeland Security Preparedness Technical Assistance Program (HSPTAP). This program, facilitated by FEMA, is open to eligible nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher education. The goal of HSPTAP is to enhance state, local, tribal, and territorial capabilities to prevent, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate significant events, including threats or acts of terrorism. Activities funded under this program will include producing educational materials, offering training and workshops, and facilitating discussions among key stakeholders.
