All networks are personal. 😎 You get more in relationships from authentic dialogue than anything else. Case in point: I just happened to run into my friend Billy Boozer Wednesday night at the Foreigner/Styx concert. 🎸 And we had a really nice conversation. Billy and I have lots of different opinions and experiences, but that's a GOOD thing. Because it makes it all the more powerful when expressing support. We caught up for a few minutes, shooting the breeze. But Billy also knows I'm Jewish. ✡️ And it meant the world to me when he reaffirmed his support as a friend in the face of all the Antisemitism we've seen online lately. Supporting your network is how you set yourself apart -- especially when it's not work-related. Voice support for people who may be having a tough time. 🗣 Let them know you're there as more than just a customer or investor. Here it is: Express gratitude. ♥️ I'm truly baffled why more people don't utilize this tactic. Because it opens you up to staggering opportunities. More from my talk last month with Nathan A. Earlier this year, I had the privilege of being the featured speaker for The Hatchery, Emory Center for Innovation's cohort dinner. 🎙 Now, I couldn't be more excited to be returning later this week as an official coach & expert for their new cohort class! Starting on Friday, I'll be working for the next few weeks with the new Emory Hatchery group as an expert specializing in relationship-building & network development. Truly grateful to Ben Garrett & Rizky E. for extending this opportunity. The relationship & dialogue that Ben, Rizky, & I have built over the last year is a perfect example of patient, methodical cultivation. 🌱 And this is what we want founders to recognize: Great relationships take TIME. ⏳️ Ben and I have been growing our dialogue over MONTHS since meeting last autumn. Wanna build a massive network? 📈 You NEED to accept this reality. 🧐 More here from my talk with Nathan A. Stuck, MBA at Atlanta Tech Week last month. And this might be one of the most honest Q&A back-and-forths. This is precisely why I do these talks. 🎙 People need to hear this. Ready?? If you're gonna utilize cold emailing as a strategy, then you need to BE okay with the "cold" part of it! 🧊 That means that you may *not* get a response (immediately). Be able to accept that. That's a big part of the game. Do not be that person responding: "Did youbget my email? Did you get my email?" Things take TIME. ⏳️ People have all kinds of reasons they haven't responded (yet). You can't take it personally. You gotta have confidence & vision to do this stuff! 😂 Network-building and entrepreneurship are hard things. They take time & tenacity. ⏳️ And sometimes, it's a lot of positive self-talk that gets you out if the gate! It can be damn near impossible to see where one particular dialogue or relationship will take you. But you'll never know unless you give it a shot. What's the worst thing that could happen? It doesn't work out. 🤷♂️ So you move on to the next one and try it again. A HUGE part of networking is thinking entrepreneurially. That doesn't mean you need to BE an entrepreneur. But it's good to employ the same tenacious and "possibilities" mindset. 🧠 This is why I tell followers of The Zero to One Networker that there is no one "right way" to network. Just a lot of wrong ways to avoid.
