About us
The Walking Classroom is a national award-winning education program that provides students and teachers with an innovative way to get exercise without sacrificing instructional time. Now a program of Alliance for a Healthier Generation, The Walking Classroom's “Walk, Listen, and Learn” methodology capitalizes on the favorable link between exercise and cognitive function. The program is simple: Students take brisk 20-minute walks, as a class, while listening to the same custom-written, kid-friendly podcast that comes pre-loaded on their "WalkKit" audio device. Each podcast begins with a brief health literacy message, and the lesson plans in the Teacher’s Guide help educators effectively discuss and review the podcast material. Last week, my colleagues (Emma Wahlen and Sean Brock) and I had the opportunity to exhibit at the Active Schools National Summit. Our support of this summit and Active Schools US demonstrates our commitment to #PhysicalActivity and #PhysicalEducation. We enjoyed interacting with each participant that stopped by our booth to learn more about us (& those that came to our breakout sessions). Also, shoutout to my home organization Alliance for a Healthier Generation and The Walking Classroom for sponsoring the event along with many other fabulous sponsors. And finally major kudos to Nick Kline as the Director of this event. Our team is on the move! Sean Brock, Emily Shore, MPH, and Emma Wahlen attended the Active Schools US Summit in Colorado this week to connect with educators and physical activity experts and discuss best practices for creating an active school culture. Sean, Emily, and Emma shared Healthier Generation's physical activity tools and resources with Summit attendees and had the opportunity to introduce attendees to The Walking Classroom! The Healthier Generation team also facilitated three breakout sessions at this year's Summit: - Connect and Move: Rainbow Walk, Nature BINGO, and The Walking Classroom - See-Hear-Do-Engage: Physical Activity Promotion and Healthy Culture Building - Empowering PE and PA Programs: Student Centered and Success Driven Many thanks to the #ActiveSummit24 organizers for this opportunity to connect with and learn from so many incredible educators, innovators, and physical activity leaders! #HealthySchools #PhysicalEducation #K12 #WalkListenLearn

What an honor it is for Alliance for a Healthier Generation to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County! Thank you Shawn Wills, CFRE for your tremendous leadership!
This past Spring, Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County introduced ‘The Walking Classroom’ as part of both, our Education and our Health & Wellness pillars. And on Tuesday, we were invited to be part of a video to talk about the impact of this program on our youth … something we were THRILLED to do! The #WalkingClassroom is an innovative program for youth in grades 3rd to 8th that aims to enrich the mind, body, and soul with 15-minute educational podcasts that reinforce academic content in science, social studies, and language arts, aligning with the Common Core curriculum. Additionally, each lesson includes 20-30 minutes of physical activity that focuses on key values like #honesty, #integrity, #perseverance, #kindness, #respect, and #responsibility.
