Vermont's Westford School was thrilled to cheer on one of their FIRST LEGO League robotics teams, the Pickle Pandas, as they competed at the Western Edge Open in Long Beach, California a few weeks ago. This robotics team of 5th and 6th grade students had put in well over 100 hours of time to design, build, and code an autonomous robot. The students loved using their flanyards for ID badges, both for comfort (the standard badge came with string) and as a way to collect pins from the visiting teams. The competition welcomed 90 teams from all over the world (Japan, Korea, China, Estonia, Switzerland, New Zealand, Hungary, Germany, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, and more). "It was the experience of a lifetime for the kids," said Mark Drapa, volunteer coach. Flannelize your lanyards! The coziest way to hold ID badges on the job and at trade shows, conferences, and events. Also great for promotional use. The latest from the Vermont Maker Project... Meet the Maker: Kristen Fenn, Pastry Maker. “It’s not natural for anybody to be waking up at two o'clock in the morning, day in and day out,” says Kristen Fenn, Bakery Lead for Pastry at King Arthur Baking Company. But getting up at 2:00 a.m. is part of what it takes to make great bread and pastries, and to have them fresh and warm for customers and visitors six hours later. King Arthur has a sprawling, beautiful modern bakery, café, and store just off I-91 in Norwich. It also runs baking classes, and has a huge online trove of recipes, tips, and educational information. And, as a B Corp, it is committed to making an impact, to making planet-forward, people-positive business decisions. Founded in 1790, the company has been employee-owned since 2004, which makes Kristen not just a baker, not just an employee, but an owner. Follow the link below to read the full story. We proudly handcraft our products here in the USA. Domestic apparel manufacturing is known for high quality products, but comes with a variety of challenges. We're excited to see that Forbes is bringing this into focus for discussion, including some insights from our CEO, Joe Van Deman. https://lnkd.in/gQC_ZDhN

“Taking people's money is the worst part of the job,” says Scott Kerner. “It's a necessary part of doing business. But I'm not doing it for that. I do it because I really, thoroughly enjoy serving people and watching people's happiness through what we're trying to do. That's what makes you rich, right? It's not the money that makes you rich.” Kerner—just on the easier side of fifty, fit, sporting an impressive, gray-streaked beard and charismatic energy—is the owner of Good Measure Pub & Brewery, in downtown Northfield. And what does he make? Beer? Burgers? Coffee? “I'm an experience maker,” he says. Read on for the full story, written and photographed by StoryWorkz. Generational knowledge: It's the skill and expertise passed down from one craftsperson to another . . . and why it's so important US manufacturing stays strong. In this new piece for the Keep It Made USA blog, Matt Bigelow, President and COO of Vermont Flannel, talks about the company's commitment to delivering highest quality US-made apparel on a national scale -- at reasonable prices. 👉 👉 https://lnkd.in/eiv5yePS Shout-out to Emily Hoffman who arranged the interview and provided a great deal of assistance and the photos. Full disclosure: I’m not paid nor asked to write about Made in the USA products or the companies that make them. My mission is to keep manufacturing jobs stateside; the Keep It Made USA blog is my way of giving back. We like to think a “small” choice, such as purchasing something made in the US by American workers, won’t make a difference. It does. #americanmade #madeinusa #americanmanufacturing #apparel

"We just received one of these blankets as a gift and - wow! This is so warm, soft and amazing," a customer writes. "I’ll definitely keep this in mind as a gift because it’s perfect for anyone, but especially when you don’t know what to get someone. I don’t know of anyone who wouldn’t want one of these!" #weddinggifts #corporategifts #humanresources #weddingplanning #hospitalitydesign 📸 courtesy of The Barnstead Inn
