About us
Since opening its doors in the Fall of 2010, The Venel Institute has become recognized by medical device companies, surgical societies and medical professionals as a world class bio-skills lab focusing on medical education and cadaver based surgical training. The 11,000 square foot Venel Institute is well equipped to handle the smallest and largest groups and boasts a 3,000 square foot wet-lab, 75 seat auditorium, mens and women’s locker rooms, dining facilities, board room and surgical suites all connected audio visually for constant streaming of content. In addition, the Venel is equipped with the necessary surgical instrumentation and medical equipment to produce an OR like experience, including three-position fully radiolucent OR tables, C-Arms, endoscopic, laparoscopic and arthroscopic towers. The Venel Institute is strategically located in the heart of the northeast corridor about an hour from NYC and Philadelphia. This corridor boasts the largest percentage of board certified surgeons in the country making the lab easily accessible by car. In addition, we have three international airports within an hour drive with the closest airport being five minutes away, making the Venel Institute the perfect location for training locally, regionally and nationally. We have hosted hundreds of programs for thousands of surgeons who have traveled from all over the world to train in specialties including, but not limited to orthopedics, spine/neuro, pulmonary, pain management, OB GYN, plastic and reconstructive surgery, including endoscopic, laparoscopic and arthroscopic procedures. We focus on three primary areas of surgical training including cadaver based research and development programs for medical device companies developing new technologies and implants, sales representative training and resident/surgeon education.

Students from Perkiomen’s Medical Institute participated in a cadaver lab at The Venel Institute at LVHN to learn about the anatomy, physiology, and treatment of the head, neck, ear, and brain. Dr. Ravi N. Samy, Chief of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and Program Director for the International Skull Base Fellowship program at Lehigh Valley Health Network - and also a current Perkiomen parent - began the day with a conversation about his work, emerging technologies and treatments, his journey to this field, and the relationships he builds with patients. Following the discussion, the students visited the anatomical/surgical wet lab where they worked on a cochlear implant placement, led by surgical fellow Dr. Amed Natour. Access to this type of unique hands-on learning is rare for a high school student. What is even more rare is that they didn’t just watch Dr. Natour demonstrate the procedure, the students held the instruments and performed the steps themselves. Thank you to Drs. Samy and Natour, the Lehigh Valley Health Network, and the Venel Institute. #perkpride #perkinstitutes #venelinstitute #lehighvalley #otolaryngology #cochlearimplant

The Venel Institute, along with industry support from Stryker Endoscopy, Stryker Surgical Technologies, Stryker ENT, Stryker CMF and Johnson & Johnson, spent the day with LVHN residents. This included residents from the general surgery, plastics, and neurosurgery divisions. They spent hours performing a variety of surgical procedures, including cholecystectomy, bowel resection, facelifts, and implanting cochlear devices. In-house cadaveric training truly provides the residency programs at LVHN with a competitive edge.
