Creating an equitable quality of place for Black Mainers

About us

The Third Place is an organizational collaborative and coworking space designed to build community capacity through collective work and cooperative economics for entrepreneurs, community builders, and professionals of African descent. We bring together individuals with the knowledge, skills, and resources to accentuate the assets and address the gaps in Maine’s Black cultural infrastructure. Our network includes a statewide community of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color mutually invested in improving the quality of place for underrepresented communities. We connect our growing network of nearly 400 individuals and organizations through sector networking groups, professional development workshops, social activities and community service. We believe that our ability to connect people across Maine’s rural and urban landscape is of mutual benefit to those who seek us for community and those seeking to retain a talented, diverse workforce.

Vice President of Northern Light Health | Doctorial Student

What a gracious opportunity given to us by Madame Secretary Rachel Talbot Ross and Governor Janet Mills. Her engagement in health equity work is historical and we were fortunate to have the opportunity to share thoughts and strategic points to make this important work benefit all the people of Maine. Special thanks to our Vice President of Government Relations, Lisa Harvey-McPherson for making this happen. Northern Light looks forward to the next academic year starting August 26, 2024 for Morehouse and July 26, 2024 for the UNE Physician Assistant program.

PA Students Katie Bandstra, PA-S and Daisha Strobridge recently wrapped up their clerkship rotation with Northern Light Health in Maine. Earlier this month, Katie and Daisha were invited to meet with Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross to speak about their interest in rural healthcare and their experiences in Maine. They received a tour of the Maine State House, and also had the opportunity to meet Gov. Janet Mills.   Our students were joined by Darmita G. Wilson, Vice President of Medical Education, and Lisa Harvey-McPherson, Vice President of Government Relations, who discussed how Northern Light Health is helping to develop the healthcare workforce in Maine by leveraging education. #MorehouseSchoolofMedicine #NorthernLightHealth #Clerkship #RuralHealthcare #HealthEquity

Big day for the National Black Brewers Association! Thank you Brewers Association for all your work! We were able to submit Resolution 1297 to the House to nationally recognize National Black Brewers Day and to support the CHEERS Act co-authored by Steven Horsford (Nevada). Thank you Jon Renthrope and Dr J!

On June 11-12, the NB2A participated in its first “Hill Climb” in Washington D.C., hosted by the Brewers Association. Our Executive Director, Kevin Asato was joined by NB2A Board of Directors participants, John Renthrop, Drink Cajun Fire and Dr. J Jackson-Beckham, Crafted For All - The annual “Hill Climb” is an opportunity for BA members to build relationships with members of Congress and advocate on behalf of the breweries that make up the craft brewing industry. - Per our mission to advocate for effective policies for Black brewers, we met with Rep. Steven Horsford of Nevada, co-author of the CHEERS Act which is one of the beer industry’s priorities. Rep. Horsford @rephorsford also submitted the National Black Brewers Day Resolution for Federal recognition with co-sponsor Nikema Williams (Rep. GA), in conjunction with the CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS (CBC). We also sat down with NB2A Business Council Member and the National Beverage Wholesalers Association’s Craig Purser (President & CEO) and David Christman (VP Gov Affairs). Lastly, the NB2A was invited by the CBC to participate in Rep. Horsford’s Black Wealth efforts in Las Vegas and other cities to be identified later. - Small and independent Black breweries need a strong and unified voice in Washington, D.C., and we proudly take on that responsibility with honor! - #NB2A #hillclimb #BrewersAssociation#NationalBlackBrewersDay #Oct10th
