Let's create the future we want!

About us

The Solutions Project funds and amplifies grassroots climate justice solutions across the US and Puerto Rico, especially those created by Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, women, and other people of color-led organizations. We operate as a national intermediary dedicated to improving the material conditions of the people directly impacted by the climate crisis, who we believe play a central role in finding and scaling solutions. We make grants to over 140 organizations closest to the problems created by pollution and climate change, amplifying the ideas and energy of those on the frontlines. We use culture, policy, and media as a strategy to bring focus and attention to what is working and what is not. The current moment appeals to philanthropy to be more attuned and holistic in its approach. To recognize interconnectedness, and to be in deeper service of communities. This is the type of philanthropy we embody. We envision a world where everyone has affordable housing, meaningful work, and a healthy place to live. A world created for the people, by the people. 100% for 100%. We make grants to the dozens of organizations closest to the problems of and solutions to pollution and climate change. We also help our partners tell their stories in the media so people everywhere can see what's working in the most unlikely of places. Finally, we get the best climate solutions in front of decision makers in government, business, and philanthropy so they put their money behind what works. Let's create the future we want!

Our Justice40 Accelerator program helps hard-working, but too often underinvested community-based organizations get the funding they need to advance their climate justice solutions, like Alianza Coachella Valley. “With the support of J40 Accelerator I was able to attend the Climate Emergency & Energy Security Department of Energy (DOE) Summit, which was hosted by the Elected Officials to Protect America (EOPA) & DOE Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU). The J40 Accelerator's investment and commitment to cohort members like myself, has allowed me to expand my capacity in applying for funding opportunities that are available to support in addressing the needs of my communities in the Salton Sea Region and Coachella Valley at large.” - Patricia Carrillo, Director of Development and External Relations at Alianza Coachella Valley Alianza’s Environmental Justice Campaign is currently teaming up with Los Angeles architecture firm sl Collective to build an environmental justice hub at the Salton Sea to serve as a center for public and environmental health and economic opportunities. We can't wait to see them reach all of their goals! #Justice40Accelerator #ClimateAction #CommunityEmpowerment #Justice40 #EJforAll ********** The Justice40 Accelerator program is a partnership of Elevate , Partnership for Southern Equity, and The Solutions Project to help grassroots organizations build their capacity, networks, and readiness to access government funding to implement community-designed climate solutions. The Justice40 Accelerator is currently supporting 50 community-based, frontline-led organizations that are ready to tap into the benefits of the federal Justice40 Initiative and successfully advance their climate justice solutions alongside an alumni network of 101 groups.

One of our Justice40 Accelerator cohort three organizations, Philly Thrive has been at the forefront of fighting for environmental justice in Philadelphia for many years. “The J40 Accelerator has been instrumental in providing Philly Thrive with guidance, support, and care as we delve into the opaque waters of federal funding. With their assistance, we have accelerated our growth as an organization, initiated our transition into our own nonprofit, forged citywide partnerships [to apply] for a $20 million federal grant, and did so while safe in the knowledge that we would always have someone to turn to in case we began to feel overwhelmed by the bureaucratic waves rolling over us. We are excited beyond words to be a part of this J40 Accelerator cohort.” - Eric Cesar, Resourcing Coordinator at Philly Thrive We are excited to support them as they raise funds to establish a Climate Resiliency Hub in Philadelphia that will serve as a resource for community climate resilience programs and climate emergency response! "Breathing is our life force. It calms us, it grounds us, it unites us... Pollution affects all of us. Clearly. But it does not affect us all in the same way." - Gloria Walton, President and CEO of The Solutions Project.

Thank you Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, and The Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy for having me in Austria talking about climate justice, and particularly how investments can be moved towards frontline communities! I was honored to be joined on a panel with Justin Mundy, Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat, and Magnus Brunner, Minister of Finance, Austria. In the U.S. and around the globe, most impacted communities are Black, Indigenous, Latin American, Asian, Pacific Islander, and other communities of color. Despite the challenges they face, these communities are at the forefront of innovating climate solutions that are intersectional—reducing pollution, creating quality green jobs, offering training opportunities, advancing climate tech, developing net-zero housing, and cultivating community gardens and sustainable green spaces. These are the grantee partners we join forces with at The Solutions Project The business sector must partner and align with communities, ensuring that projects benefit those communities by engaging with them directly. Big thank you to Schwarzenegger Institute’s team for such generosity, warmth, and care 🫂 and thank you to President Alexander Van der Bellen for hosting us in Austria. Casa Adelante is a climate justice solution grounded in community leadership and bold visionary organizing. Casa Adelante is a 100% affordable and carbon neutral housing development in the heart of the Mission district in San Francisco. Next to it is Chan Kajaal, a beautiful community green space. It was a people powered planning victory, where the community defied the institutional planning processes that historically have harmed our lived environment. In the face of displacement, gentrification, and climate chaos, Latinx Immigrant San Franciscans are creating the solutions for their communities that will hopefully inspire others. #CasaAdelante #ClimateJustice #SFHealthyandResilientHomes

In 2023, we saw resounding success from going all in on climate justice: We listened to grassroots leadership ✅ We amplified bold new narratives ✅ We increased funding for frontline initiatives ✅ When philanthropy follows through on equity commitments, frontline communities can scale their innovations, benefiting people and the planet. As the world grapples everyday with new, unprecedented climate challenges, which often burden frontline communities that are already bearing the brunt of existing inequities and their impacts, we will continue to go all in. Inspiring doesn't even begin to describe our @solutions.project team members! "One of the main reasons I joined The Solutions Project is because of the incredible team of women behind the work. Every day I feel inspired, affirmed, and in awe of the passion, deep care, and wisdom my colleagues bring to their work and how fully they show up, every single day. I cannot think of a more important use of my time than helping to advance a vision that centers equity and justice in the climate conversation, amplifies BIPOC and women leaders as critical to the movement, and uplifts community-driven climate solutions as keys to achieving a just and regenerative future." - Sara Telzer, Development Director We are super grateful to have you on the team Sara! #TheSolutionsProject #ClimateJustice #ClimateSolutions
