  • Mitchell Rusitzky '16 is no ordinary alum. While attending Northeastern University in Boston, he also worked full time on the game "Galactic Catch" for Baobab Studios. And the day after his last final in December 2023, he was walking the red carpet in LA with his team to receive a Children's and Family Outstanding Interactive Media Emmy! We are so proud of him and predict great things in his future. Way to go, Mitchell! 📷 Alex Tinsman #sfschool #sfsalumni #sfs2016 #Emmys

  • Now playing everywhere! The Secret Song is now available to stream on PBS! Chronicling the final months of Doug Goodkin's 45-year career teaching music to children at The San Francisco School with James Harding and Sofía Lopez-Ibor. Their time-tested methods are thrown into disarray as the pandemic forced SFS into "School on the Go." They must find a way to keep the music playing and the learning going! https://lnkd.in/gsNnNVVC #sfschool #TheSecretSongfilm

  • We are so proud to announce that Toni Russell has been selected to be the School's Director of Enrollment Management starting July 1. A member of the SFS community for nearly 20 years, Toni has been a teacher, advisor, administrator, trustee, and parent; she has served as an admissions associate at SFS for several years. She embodies our mission and values, and her knowledge of our preschool to 8th grade curriculum and program is deep. We're confident that she will represent all that The San Francisco School has to offer to prospective students and families. As previously announced, our current Director of Enrollment Management Stewart Dorsey will be the School's Head of Lower School as of July 1. The search for an admissions associate is now open! If you or someone you know is interested in being a part of the SFS team, please check out this and other opportunities at sfschool.org/careers. #sfschool #sfsjobs #yaytoni

  • We are excited to announce that Stewart Dorsey, director of enrollment management, will become the head of lower school in July 2024. Stewart began his career in education as a teacher many years ago. Then after earning his Master’s in Independent School Leadership from the Klingenstein Center (Teachers College at Columbia University), he arrived at SFS in 2011, teaching preschool, kindergarten, and middle school Spanish. Since 2013, he has been in the Admissions Office, first as the associate director (2013-15) and then as the director (2015-present). He also served as head of the upper elementary school from 2021-23. As the head of lower school, Stewart will lead K-5th grades. With his deep professional experience and knowledge of SFS, he is well-prepared to support SFS’s academic program, social-emotional learning, and staff professional development. He will carry on the work that Kate McElvaney has been guiding since her arrival on Gaven St. during the height of the pandemic. We are so grateful to her for her leadership, especially in student support, family education, and staff wellbeing, and will celebrate her in the coming months before her departure. #sfschool #thankyoukate #huzzahstewart

  • The zany retelling of St. George and the Dragon is an SFS tradition. Generations of young audience members have seen the 8th grade performance, excitedly imagining the roles they will play as actors in their last year at SFS. The unusual morality tale is an allegory for the winter solstice and the change of seasons (and so, the performance concludes with the singing of holiday songs with both"right" words and "wrong"! Thank you, music teachers James Harding and Sofía Lopez-Ibor, for another hilarious rendition of this beloved winter ritual. (And thank you Abo Greenwald '90 P'31 -- the scenery you created as a student lives on!) #sfschool #sfs2024 #sfsstgeorgeandthedragon #jinglebellsbatmansmells

  • This week we were delighted to welcome Luis, Slider, Corky, and their human friends from Muttville to Extended Day! Afterschool students read to the senior dogs and gave them a lot of loving attention. Muttville wants to change the way the world thinks about and treats older dogs. These adorable mutts are sheltered in a cage-free facility as they offered for adoption, foster care, and hospice. Thank you for visiting -- our students are eager to be Muttville volunteers & owners! #sfschool #sfsextendedday #sfscompassion #sfs2024 #sfs2025 #sfs2026

  • Each year, the K-8th grade students reflect on a single theme for the year. This semester, they painted and folded, and sculpted artwork on the theme of ecosystems in nature, from tiny ant colonies (traditionally studied in 1st grade), burrowing animals, plant roots, and pollinators to the ocean, the earth's atmosphere, and the solar system. Each year, we create a beautiful wall calendar featuring the artwork of our students. If you would like to purchase our 2024 Ecosystems calendar, you can pre-order them at our school store (https://lnkd.in/dWSZxnvi). Quantities are limited, available in mid-December for pick up from SFS. 🎨 Maggie, 5th Grade #sfschool #sfsopp #sfs2027 #sfsmerch
