Lex Fellowship Valencia's visit with Olympe Abogados left everyone feeling inspired and dedicated to a continued commitment to civil rights and anti-discrimination. The lawyer and business duo Rocío Moya and Isaac Guijarro at Olympe are doing groundbreaking work with LGBTQIA equality and anti-discrimination in Spain, and gave the fellows an opportunity to work through a case involving the litigation of a hate crime. The fellows in London got to visit with Kesar & Co Solicitors, where they got hands-on experience in arguing a case on prison law. Each side got to read UK case law and rules and then created arguments to defend their client. This was a great experience to practice how to use the relevant legal principles they learned and apply them to a case to put them in the shoes of a lawyer. The Lex Fellows in London, UK, participated in a mock trial at the UK Supreme Court. Each fellow took on a role as a court member and created arguments to defend their client in a mock murder trial. It was a fun, interactive way for the fellows to explore the courtroom setting and apply their learned skills to practice. Mock trials are one of the examples of the Legal Excursions we do in our programs. #prelaw #legaleducation #mocktrial

It was a special and thought-provoking opportunity to witness a live sentencing hearing for a criminal case in the Valencia Criminal Court at the Ciudad de Justicia. Fellows had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the reality of the court and justice systems in Spain and draw parallels to the United States.
