  • July is UV Safety Month! We are wrapping up our week of UV safety tips with a reminder to regularly self-examine your skin. Check any moles, blemishes, or birthmarks from the top of your head to your toes. If you look at your skin regularly, you will know what’s normal for you. In thinking about and looking for possible skin cancers, many are found on parts of the body that tend to get more sun, such as the face, head, neck, and arms. But skin cancers can occur anywhere on the body. Not all skin cancers look the same. In fact, skin cancers can show up in many shapes and sizes. Sometimes they might even look like other non-cancerous skin conditions. So remember, if you see any changes or anything that concerns you, be sure to schedule an appointment with your doctor ASAP to get any care you may need. #UVSafetyMonth

  • July is UV Safety Month! While some people believe that indoor tanning beds are safer for you than outdoor tanning, indoor tanning beds greatly increase your risk of getting 2 of the most common types of skin cancer. Getting a "base tan" will not protect you from getting a sun burn- and can actually cause damage to deeper levels of skin than normal sun exposure. Be safe and remember to protect yourself from harmful UV rays! #UVSafetyMonth

  • July is UV Safety Month! Don't forget that doing things such as sitting in the shade on a sunny day or wearing protective clothing are simple ways to protect yourself from UV rays! This may look like: * Bringing an umbrella with you to the beach * Wearing a large-brimmed sun hat * Sitting under a tree for your picnic * Wearing a long sleeve tight-knit, dark-colored shirt while in direct sun * Wearing sunglasses or transition lenses to protect your eyes How are you protecting yourself during UV Safety Month? #communityhealth #FQHC #healthcenter #UVSafetyMonth #skinprotectiontips

  • July is UV Safety Month! One of the most common and easier ways to protect yourself from UV rays is to wear sunscreen. Here are some sunscreen tips to keep in mind while you make it through the sunny months- * Opt for sunscreen with both UVA and UVB protection! * Stay away from sunscreens that contain vitamin A * Choose SPF30 or higher * Reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours * Don't rely on sunscreen alone- sun glasses, sun hats, and tightly-woven dark-colored long sleeve shirts can also protect your skin from UV rays! #communityhealth #UVSafetyMonth #sunscreen #skinsafety #FQHC

  • Today, JPCHC celebrates Juneteenth and the connection between this holiday and caring for underserved communities. We take a moment today to consider the civil rights work that has happened since the first Juneteenth in 1865, and the ongoing efforts of community health centers to eliminate health disparities regardless of race or income. Wherever you are, HAPPY JUNETEENTH!
