🌐 Thank you for joining last week’s deep dive session on purchasing practices! We had more than 100 people attending, an impressive number that showcases commitment to taking collective action on improving purchasing practices. The panel discussion offered valuable insights on how brands can improve their purchasing practices to promote sustainability throughout the supply chain. Key themes included the need for transparency, the establishment of equal partnerships between brands and suppliers, and the critical role of legislation in improving working conditions. A significant point of consensus was the necessity to include the perspectives of manufacturers and workers, ensuring their voices drive changes in purchasing practices, which is at the core of TIWW's purchasing practices metric. The diverse dialogue between a manufacturer, a brand, and a representative of workers’ perspectives offered a comprehensive view of the challenges and opportunities in improving purchasing practices. We are grateful to our panellists and speakers for their valuable contributions and for bringing these important perspectives together. 🎥 If you have missed this event or want to revisit moments of it, watch the recording: https://lnkd.in/dN7xFmxw Stay tuned for our upcoming deep dives, where we will delve into our wages and greenhouse gas emissions metrics! Bulent Alkanli from Meta Sourcing states that in the garment industry, our supply chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Today, the unfortunate reality is that workers often occupy this vulnerable position. They continue to endure poor working conditions, low wages, and limited rights, weakening the entire system. At The Industry We Want, we believe in uplifting every part of the supply chain. We want an industry that realises its full potential by ensuring dignity for workers in decent jobs, fostering thriving businesses along the supply chain, and having a positive impact on the planet. Let's commit to strengthening the weakest links. Together, we can create systemic change where workers see their human rights realised. Stay tuned for more from our conversation with Bulent Alkanli, out on Thursday!
