Today we held our 2024 GIANT Grocery Grab competition as part of our #HungerActionMonth and year-round efforts to eliminate hunger – and our contestants gave it their all to support the food bank of their choice! Contestants from the Trexlertown, PA community and GIANT store competed to raise awareness and funds for local hunger relief organizations. After a riveting round of hunger-related trivia, they shopped ‘til they dropped. In the end, the winners were PA State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie and Katie Browning, lead checkout coach of the Trexlertown GIANT. Congratulations on earning that Golden Shopping Cart! The GIANT Company was honored to surprise each of the chosen hunger relief organizations with $15,000 to support their work to combat hunger in their communities. Thank you to all of our participants for making the 4th annual GIANT Grocery Grab so special, and to our community relations and charitable giving team for organizing such an engaging and impactful event. Without our drivers, we wouldn't be able to do what we do. During #NationalTruckDriverAppreciationWeek, we want to recognize our hundreds of drivers that keep our business moving, ensuring the products families count on arrive at stores and homes safely, securely, and on time. Meet one of our talented drivers, Dean Herb. Dean has been a CDL driver with The GIANT Company for 22 years and has more than 3 million career miles. In one word, Dean describes the team of drivers at GIANT as "excellent," adding that the team is diverse, knowledgeable, and experienced. He shares that it may seem like being a driver is a one-person operation, but it takes an entire team working together to do what they do successfully and efficiently. Dean leads by example. He's had zero preventable accidents and is a two-time grand champion of the Pennsylvania Truck Driving Championship, a competition focused on safety. "My job is to keep people safe on the road, keep myself safe, and get the groceries delivered…and make sure I return home at night." We thank Dean and all of our drivers for everything they do to serve our stores, customers, and communities. #NTDAW24

The GIANT Company is already in the holiday spirit! Today, we held our 2024 Holiday Showcase, bringing together 300 store and support office leaders to discuss ways we’re creating a memorable and meaningful holiday season for our customers and team members. During this day of learning, sharing, and connecting, participants heard from GIANT leadership and learned business updates to help them prepare for the holiday season ahead. Team members from merchandising, wellbeing and sustainability, human resources, marketing, and more shared the work that they’re doing to support our stores and customers during the holidays and beyond. “I continue to be impressed and grateful for everything this group has achieved this year. It’s proof anything can be accomplished when we’re working together toward a shared goal,” said John Ruane, president, The GIANT Company. “I know this team has what it takes to win the holiday season.” Throughout the day, one thing was evident: no matter when, where, or how our customers celebrate, we take great pride in helping them bring their holiday plans to life.

This week, we smelled the roses…and learned more about them, too! 🌹 We hosted our 4th Annual Floral Seminar, bringing together floral team members from across The GIANT Company for a day of professional growth. Throughout the day, we shared best practices, learned current industry trends, and received a hands-on education in creative design. We recognized our talented team with awards and held a nail-biting centerpiece design competition! Educational opportunities like this allow innovation – and our team members – to bloom, benefiting our customers and their families. This incredible day wouldn’t have been possible without Kevin Prill, the entire floral team, and our supplier partners – thank you!

Today, on #HungerActionDay, 100 The GIANT Company team members supported our nonprofit food partners by volunteering more than 300 hours at ten food banks and pantries sorting items, packing food boxes, and raising awareness of food insecurity. With our goal of #eliminatinghunger always top of mind, we also donated $315,000 to 23 hunger relief organizations to help them feed and nourish people facing food insecurity. Thank you to everyone who participated and made a difference in the fight against hunger!

Good morning and happy Meet a Team Member Monday! Today we’re highlighting Courtney Lancaster Hopcraft, MPP, our manager of community relations and charitable giving. She oversees The GIANT Company’s charitable contributions and works with team members and partners to support the company’s community relations strategy. Courtney shares that one of the best parts of her day is connecting with our nonprofit partners, including charitable food organizations. “I love seeing and learning about the great work that we are collectively doing in our communities to serve our neighbors and fight food insecurity,” she says. “I also love getting the opportunity to meet so many of our awesome team members who do so much good in their communities every day!” In the last 10 years, Courtney has held multiple positions, both in stores and our support office. She joined The GIANT Company in 2014 as assistant store manager of fresh and later worked as front-end specialist, store manager, and manager of team member recruitment before her current role. She enjoys learning about different areas of the business and doesn’t back down from a challenge. Her advice to team members who want to succeed: be brave. “You must be brave enough to take on new challenges throughout your career journey,” Courtney shares. “You might not immediately be the best at a new skill, but with time and focus, you will gain invaluable knowledge and expertise.” Courtney is passionate about supporting women and helping them grow in their careers in the retail grocery industry. She serves as the co-chair of our Lead Inspire Network Connect (LINC) Business Resource Group, which has provided her the opportunity to help women network with their peers and support and learn from one another. Thanks, Courtney, for everything you do!
