On Wednesday, September 25th, we had the opportunity of offering our Board and Advisory Committee members an exclusive preview at our new facility, which is scheduled to be completed by 2026. The event included a guided tour 🚧 of the construction site, allowing them to witness the progress firsthand, followed by a dynamic discussion on how this expansion will enable us to enhance and extend our services. It was an exciting opportunity to share ideas, and everyone left feeling inspired by what’s ahead. Stay tuned for more updates and upcoming opportunities to preview the plans📢 as we move forward with this transformative project! 🏫

40 years serving low-income and immigrant families in the DC area
About us
The Family Place has helped promote stability and well-being for low income families in Washington DC by offering education, critical resources, and social support for more than 40 years. Most of our clients are mothers with young children under the age of five. All classes and services are offered at no cost to families. The Family Place provides a welcoming, multi-cultural environment, with programs that help meet emergency needs; provide education and training; and offer access to information and other social services. We put the needs of our clients first by striving to develop programming that is both relevant and practical. Within the comforts of the Mount Pleasant row house we have owned since 1986, participants not only find access to important services, but also form mutually supportive friendships. And as we assist families in solving problems, we help them to build on their own strengths so that they can succeed independently.

Attention, community! The Family Place PCS is pursuing accreditation from The Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS). In May 2023, TFPPCS began the self-study phase. Since then, we have formed committees, surveyed stakeholders, and evaluated internal processes to create a school improvement plan. Now we’re expecting a visit from the MSA-CESS team in Spring 2025. We will much appreciate your collaboration in this phase of the process. Interested staff, students, and community members can participate by contacting Debbie Namovicz at [email protected]

Thank you Project Pink Tax and Yochi H. for making a meaningful impact on the menstrual health of women in DC's families! Your support ensures that no woman in our community has to choose between her health and other essential needs. #CommunitySupport"
Last month, Yochi H. and the team at Project Pink Tax were proud to donate over 4,000 menstrual products to their valued partners at The Family Place & Public Charter School. Based in D.C, The Family Place is a non-profit organization and charter school that provides vital support to the low-income immigrant community through emergency assistance and educational services. Together, we are launching a menstrual relief program aimed at regularly providing high-quality menstrual products to families in need. This initiative is a significant step toward ensuring that no one in the DC area has to choose between their health and other essential needs. A heartfelt thank you goes out to The Family Place for their unwavering dedication and to all who support Project Pink Tax in its mission to combat period poverty.

On July 26, we had the honor of hosting the Executive Director of Brotherhood of St. Laurence from HIPPY Australia, Travers McLeod! During the visit, our HIPPY coordinator, Idis Argueta, our Director of Family Services, Yinzú Nairouz, and our Executive Director, Haley Wiggins, showcased our work at The Family Place, shared our history, and discussed our HIPPY program in DC. We also explored ideas from the book “Youngest Minds,” written by our founder, Dr. Ann Barnet. Our amazing guest emphasized the book’s insights on how the preschool years are critical in children’s lives, as their brains develop more rapidly than at any other time. It was a visit that inspires us to keep moving forward and collaborating!
