These networks connect geographically proximate #CO2emissionsources to nearby geological storage sites, relying on either pipeline or ship transport for CO2 movement. CCS networks are often referred to as the "hub and cluster" model, signifying the "clusters" of emission sources and the central "hub" that collects CO2 for redistribution to the designated storage location. Network implementation leverages economies of scale, translating to reduce per-unit construction and operational costs for CO2 pipelines. Additionally, it lowers entry barriers for smaller CCS projects, playing a crucial role in accelerating emission reduction efforts while fostering local job creation. About us
ENCASE brings together CO2 Carbon Storage (CCS) research infrastructures, operators, manufacturers, academia, and SMEs to increase competitiveness in the CCS industry. By improving 7 world-leading CCS-research infrastructures with state-of-the-art scientific instruments, tools and methods to be the backbone for research and development of CCS technologies, ENCASE will contribute to a safer, more cost-effective, and environmentally friendly CO2 transport and injection. The ENCASE project has received funding from the European research infrastructures (including e-Infrastructures) under the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No 101094664.

During the 22nd Symposium on Thermophysical Properties held in Boulder, CO, USA organized by #NIST, Professor Manuele Gatti and PhD student Nima Razmjoo from Politecnico di Milano presented research outcomes conducted by #Politecnico di Milano and LEAP s.c.a r.l. as part of the #ENCASEproject. The 3rd General Assembly meeting of the #ENCASEproject took place at Politecnico di Milano #PiacenzaCampus, and at the LEAP s.c.a r.l. Tecnopolo #Piacenza. During these two interesting days, there were numerous points of reflection. CO2 - how hard can it be? Here´s a little something we prepared earlier. It is a 70 bar optical cell containing CO2 with some impurities in the form of N2 and O2 and H2O. If we cool it under tap water, the mixture turns into a liquid, and if we heat it under tap water, it turns into what we refer to as dense phase. The picture below shows the mixture at an intermediate temperature where we have both a gas and a liquid phase. 📄 Dr. Teke Xu, Dr. Martynov Sergey, and Prof. Haroun Mahgerefteh, partners of #ENCASEproject from UCL, recently presented a poster titled "A review of problems and methods of optimizing sensor grids for #CO2 pipeline transport networks" at the ChemEngDay UK 2024 conference (hosted by Imperial College London). The conference addresses cutting-edge research and new technologies across five contemporary research themes, where the poster is on the theme of "#NetZero energy pathways". The poster highlights ENCASE’s contribution to designing a novel monitoring system for #transportingCO2 via pipeline networks, which is a subtask of the #ENCASE project.
