Exploring the world of healthcare at The Christ Hospital Health Network! We were thrilled to partner with The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences and Hamilton County ESC to host Healthcare in a Day, an immersive career experience for high school students across the region! Students had the chance to gain insights from Deborah Hayes, President & CEO of The Christ Hospital, alongside experts in nursing, sonography, and medical assisting. A highlight of the day for students was the opportunity to watch a live-streamed open-heart surgery performed by Dr. Saad Hasan, cardiothoracic surgeon, with real-time narration from Dr. J. Michael Smith, cardiothoracic surgeon. This unique experience provided students with an up-close look at the vital teamwork and roles within the operating room. Thank you to the 20 high schools from Greater Cincinnati and beyond who joined us! We hope each student left feeling inspired to pursue a future in healthcare.

Is your heart telling you to sleep in this weekend? Millions of Americans will be thinking about that extra hour of sleep as we ‘fall backwards’ this weekend with the end of Daylight Saving Time. A recent study shows a potential 20% reduction in heart disease from weekend sleep, which challenges recommendations for a consistent weekly sleep schedule. Local 12's Liz Bonis spoke with our sleep medicine specialist, Dr. Karthik Kanagarajan, for his perspective. "My take on this study is, first of all, focus on preventing the sleep deprivation if you can. Aim for seven-hour nights every night. Supporting our patients beyond The Christ Hospital walls! Heather Britt, a dedicated dance instructor and founder of Dancefix by HBDC, believes in the power of community and strives to bring people together. After facing a challenging breast cancer diagnosis with a difficult prognosis, she sought a second opinion from the cancer experts at The Christ Hospital Health Network. Thanks to their care, Heather found a renewed sense of hope through another kind of community. Last weekend, two key members of her care team—Dr. Jennifer Manders, surgical oncologist, and Dr. Natalie Geier, radiation oncologist—were there to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of DanceFix’s new studio in Walnut Hills, where The Christ Hospital was proud to be a grand opening sponsor. Congratulations to Heather and the entire DanceFix community on this new beginning!

Meet Dayton tattoo artist Justin Barbarino – a passionate runner, devoted family man, and survivor. In 2023, Justin's life took a sudden turn with a diagnosis of congestive heart failure, leading him to rely on a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) to keep him going every day. Thanks to the expert care of Dr. Greg Egnaczyk and the incredible heart team, Justin is able to keep doing what he loves!
