This Black History Month, we must recognize how disability has too often been erased from the civil rights stories. Leaders like Harriet Tubman, Fannie Lou Hamer, Brad Lomax, and Lois Curtis took on racism AND ableism, shining a light that didn't exist on how Black disabled people are multiply marginalized and how their stories are overlooked in disability rights and racial justice movements. Our society still has a long way to go, so let's lift up Black disabled changemakers—past and present.
