Independence Day at TMC Bonham Hospital was celebrated in a fun way this year by our patients and therapy staff with the Swing Bed Program! Everyone dressed in their red, white, and blue and participated in a parade throughout the hospital, singing God Bless America and waving their flags. 🗽 🇺🇸 Not familiar with Swing Bed, visit us online to learn more: bit.ly/SwingBed_TMCB

We can all help prevent suicide. This month marks two years since our nation launched 988, the easy-to-remember, nationwide mental health crisis helpline. Since launch, 988 has received over 8 million calls from people in distress seeking support when they need it most. 988 is confidential, effective and available to everyone via phone, text or chat. America has a lifeline. Spread the word: Help is available. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): • 988 callers connect quickly with trained crisis counselors. • Crises are typically de-escalated. Less than 2% of 988 calls require response from emergency services. Many callers report that their call prevented them from taking their life. • People feel better after calling. Numerous studies of 988 calls have shown that the majority of callers were significantly more likely to feel less depressed and more hopeful after speaking with a crisis counselor. • 34% of 988 calls are about mental health concerns other than suicide. Don’t wait. We are listening. If someone you know is struggling emotionally or having a hard time, you can be the difference in getting them the help they need by calling 988 or seeking help at a licensed behavioral health facility. As a behavioral healthcare provider here in Texoma, our team at TMC Behavioral Health Center is dedicated to supporting individuals in a manner that promotes hope, resiliency, connectedness and recovery. We are proud to partner with the local 988 network and are a resource for individuals needing help.

Those who choose the important profession of nursing often experience both the highs and lows of life right along with their patients. We recently received a Daisy Award nomination from a patient who recalled the significant impact that Sara Johnson, RN, a nurse with The Birth Place at TMC, had on her at the end of 2022. We are grateful to her for sharing her experience with us... "On December 8, 2022, I came into the ER with decreased fetal movement. Once I got into a room, my fiancé and I were told that we had lost our daughter at 32 weeks. Sara Johnson was the nurse that was assigned to us that first night. She did everything in her power to make my fiancé and I comfortable while we were going through this loss. She took very good care of us. When her shift ended, I still had not delivered our baby, so she came back that night to help me progress even more. Although she wasn't on shift when I did deliver our baby, Sara came back that night to see me in the postpartum unit and asked to see pictures of my daughter. She told us how beautiful she was. This nurse truly made this awful experience bearable, and I’m forever grateful that we got a nurse who understood what we were going through." Thank you, Sara, for demonstrating such care and compassion. We're pleased to honor you with the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Learn more about this award online at bit.ly/TMC_Daisy

Are you enjoying a breather from your normally hectic schedule? If so, you're not alone. Many people find there's less competition for their attention at this time of year. You may have fewer commitments and an overall more relaxed daily routine. That's why it's also an ideal time to take care of elective surgeries you may need. If there is an elective surgical procedure you need to get done, talk to your doctor or surgeon about when it's best to do so.
